Cool Chris in Singapore 12- 15
    Hi All

I will be away in Singapore from 12th to 15th.

However if anyone in Singapore would like to hook up I'd be very happy to get in the food and beer at Chjmes on Saturday or Sunday night.

Drop me an email / PM or Post so I can sort out the best date and time

    Cheers

Sounds like fun! Singapore has some good attractions. My favorite was the night safari, gotta love those huge flying foxes and fruit bats. Only thing I'd do different next time is bring a tougher bottle of mosquito repellent. They got me 45 minutes after I sprayed!

    Lots of pics guaranteed

We'll certainly do the Zoo and Sentosa, kids will love the marine park there though I do worry that the "Touch tank" might get Alex rather excited and see him jump in to stomp a shark

Never done the night safari, really ought to as I hear so much about it!

Last time we were there was around 3 years ago when Nok was pregnant so we didn't do as much as we could, this time around we'll have Alex and Baeng ensuring we do, do as much as possible

    Cheers

Ooh! Sentosa is great!! Make sure you take the kids to the Butterfly and Insect exhibit. If you're lucky, you'll find somebody in the scorpion room to put scorpions on the kids for photos. We met this guy who was petting the scorpions telling us how harmless they are. Got some photos of my gf with these big black scorpions crawling all over her.

The Zoo is beautiful! Definitely one of the nicest I've seen. The boundaries between the animals and people are so well hidden you feel like you're right there with them. We did the Bird Park, Zoo and Night Safari in one day. Lots of footwork, but it was well worth it. If you're going to be at the zoo, you might as well stick around for the safari, it's directly next door and opens when the zoo closes. If there's time, the Lorikeets at the Bird Park are a blast. You buy this little cup of sugar water and they'll be duking it out on your shoulders to be next to jump on your hand for a sip.

BTW, I've attached some pics from our trip back in May:

yea the Zoo is the best I have ever been too. I always go too early so end up not wanting to hang around for the Safari, will get it right this time (Tks for pic with opening hours )

Gotta love those Asian Short-Clawed Otters, they're funny as can be!! They sound like doggy squeaky toys and they're super cute. Can find em at the zoo and night safari.

    Chris;

If your not already booked, Go stay at the Shangrai La Sentosa resort, the only truly kids friendly hotel and beach front hotel in Singapore. We always stay there, pricey at $120 BUT well worth it. great pool and location and the all you can eat breakfasts are good for all day.

Also loads of free stuff to do there so it is worth the extra vs Orchard road.
Don't miss the light show at the lion on Sentosa starts around 8pm and the food court has great food.

    Hi Richard

I did think of that but I've got a group of six and that puts the Shangrai La just a little above the budget for this trip Going to stay at the Rendevous near Chjmes, I've stayed there several times on business and like the hotel and the amount of restaurants within striking distance.

Cripes Singapore needs to slow down the development stuff, seems that everytime I got there I see more building sites and less greenery... this time around the hotel I stayed at had 2 new buildings and a building site where a park used to be... Sentosa, can't go 100 metres without running into signs for building stuff... what's goin on WHT ?

Kids had a Great time though anyway pics to follow later

    Cheers

That might explain Sentosa, but not the multitude I found at every corner of every road, on the mainland, they are building new MRT lines too which means building sites everywhere.

well I do know that 2 casinos are in the works. one on Sentosa the other somewhere on the island. Guess with 2 new casinos they are expecting a flood of new arrivals so new hotles...shopping centers...housing...

Damn, I only just saw this thread, and only by mistake.

I've been living here for about 11 years, would have been a great opportunity to meet.

    Damn again...

PS: if anybody else is coming to Singapore PLEASE PM!

I need to get out of Taiwan by September 12th to renew my Visa. I may end up in Singapore if it turns out to be the cheapest place to go. I'll keep you guys posted. BTW, when do we get to see pics Chris?

I've booked to fly home (my first home at least) to spend Christmas and New year...so maybe we can hook up with some others Chris. Yes I always lament the constant upgrading that Singaporeans seem to be so intent on but I think that's really the only way they can sustain their economy. It's just exhausting sometimes - almost as if if anyone bothered to stop and smell the roses they'd somehow worry that they've missed the bus somehow.

I love my country but I think with the constant upgrading what often gets lost is the memories...I went to visit my 'old school' a couple of years after I'd left only to find that it had moved somewhere else and the new school that had taken over had demolished the old site...together with all the old haunts, the trees, the lot...and so my memories go with it. And that's often what I think is lost in all the upgrading and development - the character of the country and its people is lost in all the newness and starkness of it all...

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot...so that song goes.

Yes we will need to do Sentosa as well with my kids, and the obligatory trip to the zoo with the KFC in the middle where there's that beaut water play area and they just go mad...

    Scott, those pics are great.

    Hey Chris

Will by flying out of Sydney Christmas Eve 24Dec and staying in Singapore till mid Jan2006. Will probably make a side trip to Kuala Lumpur to see my grand-dad but that should only be a few days - more likely a weekend. Other than that, should be pretty 'free' and a meet-up would be great. Then I could possibly write it off as a 'business' expense
