    What's your favorite childhood memory?
I just got off the phone with my sister and we were reminiscing about our younger days. We were talking about penny candy, bubble gum (3 sticks for a penny!), jelly beans (a bag full for a dime!), homemade ice cream, etc.

Makes me wonder, if you could time travel back to your youth, what would you want to bring back to the present with you?

For me it would be the original pink cotton candy from the county fair. Cotton candy just isn't the same nowadays!

Does this post give away my age?

If there was anything I could bring back from my childhood it would be my cousin Jesse.

Trust: who or what is "The Brotchen Lady"?

Rhea: Sorry you lost your cousin. Come back and give us a good memory from your childhood.

When i was a kid growing up in Germany (army brat) the Brotchen Lady is a German lady that would come around in something like an ice cream truck, she would ring a bell, and she would be selling all sorts of stuff to munch on like brotchen, gummi bears, tubes of sugar, ice cream, cold cans of Coke, all kinds of candy and chocolate. Usually we would be in the middle of playing pick up football or something, take a break, get some goodies and then get back to playing. Either that or that pizza place outside my dad's club in Germany which had the best pizza i've ever had in my life. I would fly to Germany just for some of that pizza

Sorry Kitty, didn't mean to be a downer.

The only "thing" from my past I'd like to bring back is my cousin Peter's homemade root beer. Best root beer EVER.

My fondest memories mostly revolve around getting my first Nintendo, Apple and PC. Boy was I a nerd back then...

... okay, time to get back to working on my left join and field index optimization for my mySQL matching algorithm. After I'm done, maybe I'll pop some GBA carts in my DS.

Oh Rhea, I didn't mean to make you feel bad. I just wanted to get a happy memory bouncing around in your brain to make you feel good.

ummmmm... root beer! I remember going to A&W drive-in for root beer floats after the movies. I loved the drive-in double features!

    Trust!!!

I was an army brat in Germany also and ours was a guy in a little three wheel car selling that same stuff out of the back of the car. It was great! I remember these sour stick in a little paper envelope. Kind of like a SweetTart, but better. Thanks for making me recall that wonderful memory.

My dad passed away a few weeks ago and as the visiting family and I were talking about our memories of my dad and one of my most favorite memories was Sunday nights while we were stationed in Alaska (yeah, I've been around a bit). Almost every sunday evening he would go out and fire up the charchol grill, even when it was below zero out. He'd cook steaks and after dinner he, my mom and I would play cards for a few hours. We'd listen to some old comedy albums he had called Hootenany (if I recall). Same thing every Sunday and we never got tired of it. Then my high school years came along when we moved to Colorado and he went off to Thialand for a year of service there without us and we never started back up doing it again.

A couple of months ago my dad and I laughed about those silly albums we used to listen to and spent a good part of one evening trying to remember each of the funny stories on them. Makes you realize that even though you lose the ones you love, you carry with you soooo many memories that really last a lifetime.

Summer Vacation not a care in the world...Sleep Away Camp...Wiffle Ball in the cul da sac...constructing bike trails through the woods, and then the reward of getting to use them.(however I did not like the poison ivy that usually accompanied the completion of the trail)...late night manhunt, I could go on for hours.

I used to live on this great dead end street that was full of kids my age...what an awesome place to grow up there was always someone to play with.

    Ditto!

The cool STUFF can be bought right now, from collectors, no need to "bring it back." The horrific experience of being a KID of any age, on the other hand, can stay in Blazes where I chucked it.

Unfortunately this squirrel can only zap acorns out of the trees with his laser eyes. He's slightly inept when it comes to programming.

You don't even know how excited I was when I first saw Super Mario Brothers. It was at a department store called Fedco which is now out of business. They had a NES demo unit and boy was there a line to play. I remember waiting a good 30 minutes just to play 1 life. Totally forgot about Atari. My favorite was Adventure:

I'm still hooked to this day. I just finished Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga for GBA, great game!!
