    Question Substitution for qksrv.net?
Would cookies still be tracked if you substituted the other popular server alternatives for qksrv? Are these servers also listed by Norton? I realize some are only used for tracking image, others for the links.

I'm on a Mac and don't use Norton, so I can't check hosts files to see what's listed.

I'm just trying to figure out complete lack of sales by CJ (and LS) since the first few days of August, while SAS and indies are chugging along. It may just be the merchant mix I have, but thought this might be a possible solution to qksrv.net problem.

I think you will find that due to the datamining that CJ does Norton (and some others) will eventually ban all their new domains as they come across them.

That's true, but if substitution enables more people to clickthrough now, it solves the qksrv situation at least temporarily.

And on the other hand, if enough publicity is generated about how Norton is making the Net inacessible or difficult for millions of shoppers, they may have to remove qksrv from their banned list.

OK, that may be Pollyanna thinking, but ya never know!

You can swap out any old domains with any of the newer ones and it will still work correctly.

Norton isn't about to throttle their reputation by removing any type of spyware from their spyware to block list. Sooner or later they'll get around to blocking the newer domains.

    Todd,
Thanks for the heads up! This at least provides a temporary solution. Do you happen to know if any servers beside qksrv are on their spyware list?

    JoyUnltd,

What we are trying to tell you in a delicate way is that Norton is not doing anything wrong. It is the Networks that are doing the wrong, they are datamining info for one thing which could be/is classed as spyware.

This is the reason CJ's qksrv links are flagged now and this is the reason all their new domains will get the exact same treatment down the line.

The only permanent way for CJ to keep their links from getting banned/flagged is for them to stop their practice of dataming. I suspect this is the reason their so talks with Norton got nowhere quite a while back, Norton would not compromise their good name like Chocolate_Chicken says in his post above, and CJ would not stop their datamining.
One day parasites and their ilk will be made illegal, I bet a few Lawyers will be pissed off when the day comes.

What's this bad "datamining" that's supposed to be happening, other than tracking our commissions? I've seen that word more and more often lately, but never with specifics.

Or are people on this board actually (horrors) suggesting that tracking purchases to the right affiliate link is bad?! (/horrors)

The datamining operations are an entirely different issue from the tracking of sales.

    Hi All,
A newbie question...does this mean that I can change qksrv.net in my links to ********* and the link/tracking will work correctly? Also, what are the newer domains?

    Meeka,
Yes, you can change your links to the newer domains, but no one can post them here. Go to your vendors, select some links and get html. You'll see the alternates right after the http info.

Doh, doh, doh! Thanks for this info. It doesn't matter what they're datamining, they shouldn't be doing this.

Chocolate_Chicken, I'm too much a newbie to be able to read between the lines, sorry I misunderstood your post! Now I understand completely. I highly doubt Todd could make a post about this, there's nothing he can do.

Is this also why LS is targeted as well?

For the record - we do not do any "datamining". I do not know where this claim came from - all we do is track commissions.

    Todd,
    Thank you for your response.

It is very difficult to parse out this info, and accusations and denials fly back and forth here. The affiliate industry has certainly been targeted from many angles (Google) and there are a lot of messy issues on all sides.

The Norton issue is frustrating enough, and to have the datamining accusation hanging here is, well, I'm out of words.

I hope there's some way to resolve this with Norton, it's hurting everyone.

CJ Links Good - BeFree awful with Norton
I finally turned on Norton Ad-blocker on my 2005 version, and shocked to see my BeFree pages! I always put the images on my own server, with the text link attached, and those images don't even show just becuz they're linked to the BeFree text link - not even in View Source. I always put descriptions with the product, and that looks pretty stupid now with no image or link. Just plenty of white space and descriptions.

Is BeFree ever going to do something like CJ did?

I think a lot of people think that because ValueClick data mines. I use to beable to count up to 3 bots on my site from valueclick when I ran their CPM program and sometimes one still pops in.

    Karin (and others),

Do you have CJ vendor images? If they're not qksrv, do these show? I'm on a Mac, not using Norton, so I have no idea if product images don't show. I have too many products to go back, unlink, and put links into the text underneath.

Oiy, what a mess! Today: JoyLtd

    JoyUnltd,

I have Norton 2005 and it's not only CJ. Even if they're not qksrv, they are not showing. Ditto...it's too ugly to look at!!

Maybe put a notice on my home page and product pages, lead to a page about Norton, info about spyware, parasites. Not what I planned to do today. Well, it might explain why CJ and LS aren't growing and SAS/indies are.

-Double click on Norton Personal Firewall icon

-Click on Status & Settings tab

-Ad Blocking setting options = On/Off (on the right side there are 2 buttons 'Turn Off'/Turn On'

-If Ad Blocking is turned 'On' you can also select whether you want to block all ads or just pop ups

    Hope this helps...

I thought something was wrong with LS -- it's deader than dead for me. Thanks for the original info you posted.
