    Kowabunga-Big 3 Mention Again
Well after a fairly lengthy discussion earlier this week regarding whether or not Kowabunga was actually a network or just a software host for independent programs, it looks like there is another event (Yahoo Search's decision to use Kowabunga) that brought out a reference that Kowabunga was setting itself up to challenge the big 3 networks. The article also makes reference to the considerable price hike by Kowabunga.

Must be due to the increase in gas prices.

LOL, why not, everyone is blaming high gas prices. You can see on the news that the price of a barrel of oil went up 20 cents and think you should fill up your tank now before the price increase hits the pumps. Well, you better be quick because that price increase for a barrel in the Middle East strangely seems to affect your neighborhood gas station in a matter of minutes. Who would have thought that higher priced barrel of oil could get from the Middle East to your neighborhood in a matter of an hour. Either they think we're stupid or they're downloading this new oil over the Internet.

Amazing that Kowabunga's buyout is starting to effect their management decisions. They are hell bent on a path they have chosen. Too bad they have nothing different to bring to the table in exchange for hyping up their perceived value with these leveraged moves. You'd have thought they'd have tried something of a different approach to affiliate marketing that improves it's weaknesses. Something like the Safe Haven Network model. Does Kowabunga have the service to demand a $2000/month fee?

Yes, but a drop in oil prices takes a week or more to be reflected.

I've been impressed with Kowabunga since the recent (within the past year) changes.

Thoughts? on what? A blog post written by Linda Bouquet quoting Jeff Molander and a PR pimp out by Collins? What in the world?

Do you really want me to say what I think?

Well, I'd probably have to bann myself for such language but, suffice it to say ...

Yeah... it's written on the internet ... so it *MUST* be true!

    GTFR!

I'm also sure that the Yahoo deal had more to do with Think/CGI than Kowabunga.

Yeah, all this has already been gone thru. In the link it mentions Kowabunga has wooed away big brands like Fairmont Hotels. No they didn't. They still have a program at an actual network, Performics. They just decided to provide another option to affiliates in working with them by opening up an indy program using the MYAP software, that's it. This is also the third program for Yahoo, i believe.

Big Networks - CJ/BeFree, Performics, Linkshare
    Medium sized networks - Shareasale
Small - Fineclicks, Websponsors, Incentaclick, Affiliate Feul
    Not a network - Kowabunga/Kolimbo

Same thing. Yahoo Searchs decision is what brought up the first discussion we had last week. No biggie

I work with indies who use Kowabunga. I have no beef with them as a service.

This looks like a viral marketing campaign in the early stages. Repeat something enough times and eventually the media will believe it. Repeat it enough times in the media and eventually the populace will believe it.

Shawn pimps kowanbunga, kowabunga pimps shawn. More log rolling from the "experts".

End result? I now avoid Kowabunga. I have never seen anything positive that Shawn has had his hand in. I don't need to learn this lesson again.
