Ranking hit if you have Google ads
I have been trying for some time to discover why for certain keywords I am highly ranked with Google and Yahoo but constantly losing ground with MSN. Yet my back links, relevancy and coding are all solid.

The answer it seems is the pernicious use of Google ads on my front page!

None of the sites ranking above me have them. My decline from front page to off the map coincides with the implementation and recent competing MSN text ads.

    Tossers.

Did all the pages on the sites get whacked, or just the pages running AdSense? Meaning, did entire sites get whacked or just individual pages?

BTW, it looks like a bit of an index change this morning.

I have a similar site but without google ads using a sub set of the main site. Only inbound links are from main site yet sub site ranks second and main site not in the first 50.

On google; main site for sub site keyword is 4th sub site is 15th.

    Go figure.

But still, they're different sites and would get different rankings anyway, depending on a number different factors.

It's got nothing to do with AdSense, it's how it's hitting the algo.

I get boatloads of traffic from MSN to my adsense/content sites, including some top-5 rankings on MSN, so I suspect something else is to blame for what you're seeing.

I have had poll position for most of my keywords with MSN, Google and Yahoo for the last 3 to 4 years plus relevancy, solid back links (6,000) and a site name that matches my product.

MSN also has extra entries for us under "Show more results for xxx.com", whereas there is nothing extra for the sites ahead of us.

Word density and checking is verified by Bcentral (a Microsoft site).

All changes to site have been carefully monitored and web positions graphed each week. MSN responded well to recommended optimization but not to the introduction of adwords.

I have removed adwords from the main page to see what happens!
