Wonder how long it will take for the IM spammers and those pushing BHO infestation fees to jump on Google's wagon??

What's the difference between Google Talk's 'calls' and MSN Messenger's 'Audio Conversation'.
MSN has much more features. I expect Google to do some major updates to this very soon. Only thing I like about it (besides how neat the interface is) - is that you have the ability to name your contacts as you please. This avoids having to remember each persons email address when they put weird display names on MSN.

Also, I don't see a way to be 'notified' when certain users come online. But then again, it is still in BETA.

wow it's better than Skype with audio chat(and that is awesome!). It replace gmail notifier to tell me i got email cool. The only thing I hate for the moment is the conversation window that need to stay in the taskbar for the audio chat. With Skype I can minimise the program in systray and close any conversation window and still can talk to my friend. But Google talk take less CPU.

I hear your pain! I still have ICQ but nobody uses it anymore but I hate to give up my small ICQ number. I hear they are being auctioned on Ebay. I remember one I used to have called..uhm..hmm..tribal.. I think it was the first one I had.

It was under speculation that the $4 billion they raised last week was going to be used to buy Skype... personally I think they should have done so, instead of starting from scratch. Skype is just their cup of tea, especially since they turned down a $3 billion dollar buy out from NewsCorp because they didnt want to be owned by those corporate scum.

The nice thing is they support the open Jabber protocol, so you aren't locked into their program and don't have to wait for some other people to reverse-engineer it. Works with gaim and iChat and all that good stuff.

Try a program like Gaim that integrates all the various IM systems into one program. It's nice when you have work associates on AOL, friends on Yahoo, penguin-head buddies using Jabber, etc...

I found the audio in Google talk better than Yahoo audio, but not up to Skype audio. I also didn't see a "conference call" feature, which was the whole reason I downloaded and used Skype to begin with. BUT Google talk uses a lot less computer resources than Skype.
