    Browser hijacked.
Looks like I have a pesky little critter on my computer playing games with my browser. I've run a few of the normal spyware programs, but does anyone have a suggestion as to their favorite. I've run adaware and spyware doctor, but the pest still seems to be there.
    Thanks

I have tried them all, and if you have something really nasty Panda may be the only way to go. The free version only identifies things (same as hijack-this). I paid the small fee to get a year's subscription (and I wasn't even an affiliate ). The paid version found everything.

May have to try it as it keeps killing all the other methods. Not sure where this came from, but suspect either the wife or kids.

Ooohhh - I can hardly wait till I have the funds so I don't have to share a computer with the kids. I spend a lot of time cleaning the computer and teaching them what not to do. They don't know any better and it DRIVES ME CRAZY.

BUT, good example. Most computer users are not any more savvy than my kids. That's why ebates and co. get downloaded on so many machines.

Sad thing, but I actually think it was the wife. Not sure, but a site she saw mentioned on tv the other day, appeared to have been hacked. She also mentioned something in passing another time that may have been the culprit. Looks like some type of coolwebsearch hijacker, but nothing has been able to get rid of it yet.

CWShredder will get rid of it:

I've used cwshredder to no avail. I'm using their other product right now, spysubract, and it looks like it's picked up a few registry items the others haven't. What a time waster this is!

Spencer I wish you luck. Coolwebsearch is a hard one to get rid of. I did it once and it was never completely removed.

How about Microsoft Windows Anti-Spyware? That seems to be pretty good.

    Windows AntiSpyware

    Good luck!

I had a problem with my browser that whenever I searched for anything that contained the word women's. I think my 14 year old picked it up somewhere... anyway I couldn't get rid of it until I turned off system restore, restarted in safe mode, and ran AVG. It found it and I haven't had it since.

    Hope this works,
    Kirk

Keeping my fingers crossed now, but it looks like Spyzooka was able to find a win32 trojan. Nothing else picked it up as I tried them all. So far I haven't been able to replicate any of the problems using search terms in yahoo, google, ebay, etc, so perhaps I'm finally back in business. Nothing like going thru 10 anti-spyware programs to solve the problem.(hopefully) Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

    Run HijackThis.

Reboot PC and enter Safe Mode.

    Run HijackThis.

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL, check for any unnecessary processes.
Write the name of those processes down, then click on END PROCESS for them.

Do a search on your pc for any filenames like those process names.
If they seem dodgy, remove the files (or copy them somewhere just in case)

    Run HijackThis one more time.

Reboot computer and enter in normal mode.

    Should do the trick.
