    Message For Todd: Please Help
    Hi Tod,

The CJ help desk guys have surpassed themselves in terms of unhelpfulness. I asked the question below on 15/08/05 and it still hasn't been answered (even though i got the standard email twice saying it'd be answered within 24 hours.
    Here it is:

I'm trying to get an advanced link working for Panda's ActiveScan. The link is in the form of a flash banner. When I put the code into CJ it makes the code into a CJ link with no problems. Everything works fine...The code for the link is:

    27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="152" height="152">
    http://www.************/click-152754...mg/home/Banner ActiveScan_PSI.swf">

BUT there is a section of the code after the param name=movie that gets made into a CJ link (this is highlighted in blue). I need this action disabled as what is happening is that the impressions for the flash banner are counting as clicks and this has badly hammered our EPC.

Is there some way you can disable this function in CJ? Please can you help by detailing what needs to be done. I'd appreciate it if you would NOT tell me you don't provide link support. The problem here is with CJ's link generator NOT our code.

If anyone in ABW has any ideas about this I'd really appreciate some help!

    Thanks.

Ok...I can't post the HTML code to show you what's going on...

Any AM's know how to get Flash banners working in CJ without generating massive amounts of clicks. Here's one example of the sort of code i'm dealing with:

Please ignore part of the code at the beginning for the big grin smilie src...Don't entirely understand why it keeps showing up, but can't get rid of it....

I've removed the smiley and the links that the forum automatically added.

I think part of the problem is that you need to tell CJ where to insert the PID and AID (with "< pid >" and " < aid >", remove the spaces, the forum isn't letting me type it right!) so that your flash script can create proper CJ links. I suspect that CJ automatically tries to do this themselves if the code isn't added by the merchant.

CJ probably needs to document this better. It seems like almost every single merchant who tries to do something like this has problems (often with tracking).

Thanks for the reply Michael! Greatly appreciated. I'll have a go at following your guidelines on how to get this working right now!

When you talk about tracking problems, what sort of problems have you or anyone else you know had when using Flash banners as advanced links in CJ?

Would be very curious to know more.

Unless they're programmed right, the links in Flash or other advanced methods are direct links rather than affiliate links, so they won't track as affiliate links and won't give affiliates credit. You should probably talk to someone at CJ to make sure it's done right.

Are you going to answer Todd, or is this another shining example of CJ not simply not caring...I'm still waiting for a response from the CJ contact form (obviously only for one way conversations from what i can see)

    James,

Sorry to hear about your issues with CJ.

I will say it's nice to know they treat EVERYONE equally, affiliates and merchants alike.

    Well...everybody except eBates...

CJ has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they seriously have no interest in assisting affiliates in any way whatsoever, and I include Todd in that assessment. He occasionally does a drive-by here to chastise people or claim that all the problems are imagined, but he ignores the vast majority of pleas for help or answers.

Asking questions via the CJ interface is only marginally more useful, since it's usually weeks before there's any answer, and the answer is always a canned answer or "it must be a problem with your web site".

I don't even bother asking CJ questions any more.

Your best bet is to post your questions here and hope that other affiliates will help you. That has about a 10,000% better chance of seeing results. There are a lot of extremely knowledgeable and helpful people here, that could do an infintely better job of running a network and providing responsive customer service than CJ does.

Move your program over to Linkshare John. Obviously CJ doesn't care.

Aak, CJ ignores ALL their customers!
WTF, do they have a death wish??

That's a semi-serious question. Most of the companies I see that do things like that as a standard of operation, DO have a death wish of some sort, or at least don't care if they die or not.

Of course there is also an assortment of clueless bonehead places that truly can't understand what happened to their revenue (never mind that it started dropping after eliminating the customer service division).

    Well...everybody except eBates...

I wouldn't count on the big accounts continuing to get customer service. It's like rust. If not stamped out, the attitude that customers = scum spreads throughout the organization eventually.

NO dittos on going over to Snare, though. IMO that's not an improvement, even if they do make merchants feel better (than CJ does). As an affiliate, I think they suck, and they give lots of PR while not really improving. And affiliates are still half of the equation.

None of the large networks really seem to have it 100% together (unless SAS now qualifies as a "large" network), unfortunately.

SAS then. At least Brian wouldn't let merchants or affiliates rot.

Thanksgiving weekend is irrelevant. This thread was started on August 30, just about 4 months ago. If the landlord let the toilet stay plugged with no response for 4 months, I think we'd consider it high time to go apartment hunting.

OH MY GOD!!! I finally had a call from a guy at CJ Santa Barbara called Chris...He offered to help me!!! I've sent him the code for the Panda Software Virusometer and he said he'll try and get it working for us...

Wonders never cease! I don't know what finally inspred CJ to do something...It might be the nearly 600% increase in sales over the past four months...I'd most likely put it down to an act of god though...
