    Website For Leukemia Family
I have a close friend about 43 yrs old that was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. The type he has is fairly treatable however that is still up in the air as to how he will recover. He is several weeks into treatment. The bad news he got yesterday is that he probably will not be able to go back to his job at the lab he worked at due to the humidity and other conditions, even after recovery. I am thinking of starting a website for him and his family (wife and 2 kids). I have a few ideas however if any of you have any post here or send a PM. I am thinking if any of you are willing to donate an incoming link to this (future) site that would be a great help. I am thinking if I could make up a static content site that got enough traffic to pull in a few hundred dollars a month for his family that would be a great help. Easier said than done I realize since I have a heck of a time doing it myself - that's where I am hoping a little of your help would be nice. If you want more specific information from me or have some ideas for me, PM me.

    Thank you.

Cheesehead, you could build a page about your friend and his family and their plight. Then post it here and we could link to it and/or donate.

Thanks for the idea. I am just throwing things around right now. If my friend comes out of this ok and is out looking for work, I may publish some stuff for him that he was thinking of publishing - I have been urging him to do this for a while but I would help him along. If the worse happens then I may go a different direction like some memorial type page. We would probably just monetize the content with adsense to keep this simple.

This has all happened so suddenly - less than 3 weeks ago we were all together at a fair for the kids and all was normal. Now my friend is going through chemical chemo (just finished). Monday the bone marrow results will tell the story as to whether he can go home or get radioactive chemo and bone marrow transplants.

[B][I]One of my sons passed away with this, he was just 13,the cost of blood processing alone was $376,000, we had to sell our home, then one of my daughters ran away, they were very close, in about 3 months I lost me job, not a good year.I urge everyone to help here, it can be a very painful disease, and the treatment was like torture. Now I send money to St. Judes, and the cancer research foundation.

My God Jim. You have lived through so much pain. :-( And you're still a sweet, kind man.

I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child. It has to be the worst possible pain to bear. Bless you!

Cheesehead, I think if you built a page for your friend and accepted donations for him, people would give and hopefully also link to the page. Let us know what you decide. I would suggest the donation page over a page to try to make an income from sales or ads.

Thanks for the suggestions Rexanne. I guess I wouldn't expect too many here to donate since I know there are all sorts of causes out there - some here probably have their own friends and relatives in need. The backlinks would be really helpful however. My friend was in intensive care for the last 2 days due to low pressure due to platelet incompatability but went off of IC this afternoon. The initial chemo was successful (found out today!) but his white blood cell count is still very low. Hopefully tomorrow the white blood cell count will start improving. So, I am hoping and praying for a full recovery. If so, I will be helping my friend with a content site - he has a lot of nifty ideas for hobby farm stuff and I had talked to him before this illness about doing this. When he gets home, he will have lots of time and will really need all the help he can in the way of income - he will be getting disability and social security but will have to pay for health insurance.

My good friend passed away yesterday morning. He got an infection in his lungs as a result of the chemo knocking down his immunity.

I am pretty sad about this.

So sorry to hear this Cheesehead.

Someone here said this in another thread and it's brilliant:

"Wherever he is, he's probably more alive than we are."

I believe that's as accurate as it gets.

    HUGS to you

*hugs* Thoughts and prayers going out to you and your friend's family Cheesehead. I too lost a friend back in Rochester to cancer today, kidney, not leukemia. I have a nephew that battled leukemia when he was a toddler.

    Hey CH,

Very sorry to hear this. We've lost dozens of friends to Leukemia over the last 8 years, so I know exactly what you're going through. I'm not sure if the family would be interested, but they might want to make an announcement at the funeral that donations can be made in his name to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or some other charity. My family did this at my Dad's funeral last year. (He died from Diabetes, but his brother and my daughter Alex both had Leukemia.)

    Take care...

I had just posted last week about losing a dear "son" from our church family due to leukemia. The bills after 8 years of battle are still huge. Our Pastors raised 400 dollars at the local "speedbowl" in a charity race this weekend (14 local pastors in donated race cars on a 3/8 track my head pastor smashed his into the wall on the second lap and wouldn't quit racing) this is a small drop in the bucket. Anyway the pain is still intense for all of us at our church (his father was a very big part of mentoring me and many others in my early years there) There are many great places to donate money too but I think anywork you can do towards making it easier for the family would be greatly appreciated.

I Created A Site For The Widow Of My Friend
I created a website for the widow of my friend that contains some articles and merchant links (none of which are mine). Mostly, I am encouraging friends and family to use the site for Christmas shopping but if any of you are willing to set up a link to this site, that would be great. PM me if interested and I will send you the URL to link to.

    Thanks

I don't really have monetized sites, but i do PPC. I could throw up a couple adwords groups and aim them at your freinds site.

I'm sorry for all your losses guys, I recently lost a cousin who died almost in my arms after a long fight with leukemia, the only thing I could think about when he was dying was hoping he wasn't really concious of what was happening so he wouldn't be scared.

This stuff makes me really sad....then I get really really mad.

mad at the pace of technological progress, mad at the "war on cancer" which has been going on since the 70's, and mad at societies misplaced priorities. If we spent a fraction of what we spend on pro sports and porn each year on research and new cures, we would be making much much faster progress and save more lives than you could even imagine.

    It all breaks my heart.

Thanks for your concern. It is difficult. I had 3 good friends and now I have 2. It is difficult when we go to local social gatherings and I sit there staring at the wall because my friend Shawn was the one I would talk to - this just happened at a recent wedding. I guess I don't make close friends that easily.
