That is the question. Do any of you have any opinions whether it is better or not to blink-link if you are sending visitors to a merchant's main page?

the {blink> tag is considered a no no. Not because it is going to a merchant.

Just because man. It's like having a neon sign.

    Snoop,
I prefer to have the merchants name in the status bar (if this is what you mean by blind-linking). It looks more professional, and it looks as if they are a true paid sponsor to your site, and not from a network. Just my

Yep that's what I ment (is that the wrong term to use?).

Thanks for you opinions, does anyone else care to share their preferences?

Personally I have been using the standard codes because someone told me blind links make shoppers feel like they are being deceived and it puts them off making a purchase. Is there any truth to this?

Snoop...I've heard this too. I guess the mentality of shoppers is strange. They will not click on it when there is a qksrv link...but when it says merchant.com, they feel more comfortable about it. I've spoken to people that won't make a purchase following an affiliate link...I don't know why they are like that...If they click on a link and they think there is no tracking code or something in it, I think they are more likely to buy....

    Snoop,

I suggest you run a few tests. Try a few links with tracking code hidden for a set number of impressions or clicks and then switch it back. Or try one hidden and one normal side by side and see which one gets the most clicks.

Good luck! Post your results so everyone can see what happens.

I have been testing the same idea for several months. Using 3 merchants of similar products on the same content page. Rotating the page position of merchants on occasion to eliminate position bias.

    results for 5000+ impressions(pageviews):

    .186 ctr qksrv
    .150 ctr URL
    .133 ctr Merchants Name

Conversion ratios are very close also.

My conclusion: Really doesn't make a big difference.

However, a larger test may yield different results. Or a test using other merchants.
The merchants used were similar. Perfume Mart, Perfume Emporium, Perfumes America
