    Help Needed Haiko or Others with phpBB
    Does anyone know if there is a way to stop people from adding there website when they register. The board I am using is phpBB 2.0.11 . For some reason it has become the target of spammers who are just signing up to list their porn and drug sites. I'v searched all over the control panel and can't find anything that would allow me to remove that field from the signup process The site is family oriented so it's becoming a real pain in the ass deleting the usernames and keeping up with it. Thanks All!

    Packy,
    Search the php documents for "user_website"

    You can then find out what php files display the user's web site on the various sections of the site and remove them. I did this with phpBB with another field and it worked. Make sure to save the modified documents differently so you can go back if you screw it up-- Hard learned lesson

    NP Haikster, Thanks!

    LMAO to the hard way Scooter, I've already wiped my board out twice so far just by changing one line of code Thanks for the suggestion and if I get brave enough maybe I'll give it a shot tomorrow and see what happens. Of course that will be after I back it up and install it on another site to make sure I can. Thanks!

    Do you have a thread named "Forums rules - Read before posting" in red at the top saying spam users will be deleted without notice?

    Yeah Packs, go to /templates/subsilver/profile_add_body.tpl and remove these:

    Code:
    	<tr>
    	  <td class="row1"><span class="gen">{L_WEBSITE}:</span></td>
    	  <td class="row2">
    		<input type="text" class="post"style="width: 200px"  name="website" size="25" maxlength="255" value="{WEBSITE}" />
    	  </td>
    	</tr>
    And in /templates/subsilver/profile_view_body.tpl remove these:

    Code:
    		  <td valign="middle" align="right" nowrap="nowrap"><span class="gen">{L_WEBSITE}:&nbsp;</span></td>
    		  <td><span class="gen"><b>{WWW}</b></span></td>
    This will prevent them from adding a link in their profile.

    It will not stop somebody from being able to sign up and make posts with spam links though, which is what they are going to do anyway.

    The latest version is 2.0.17, earlier versions are heavily hit by spammers, the best thing you can do is to upgrade.

    I think that the latest version have the hack with a manual code input "w4Gt7H" or the like but presented as a gif so that the spammers robots can't auto-create accounts which is why you're probably having the trouble you are (forget what that's called).

    I run the latest version and while I have been pestered by spammers in the past, it's minimal now as they have to do it all manually - far too much trouble for most of the lazy a-holes.
