    As the holiday season approaches
There is speculation that advertisers are now turning in a slew of "spam reports" to bump their affiliates out of the serps. Is there any substance to this speculation?

One friend of mine who fared better on the first page than the advertiser with certain products they were promoting have now been completely bumped out of reach - they tell me they can not find their sites listing in the first 10 pages of returns for terms they have held for three months on the first page. They suspect the advertiser reported them to the search engines as a site of "no value" (penalty for being "thin").

This thin affiliate thing has ME a bit concerned as the holidays near. I am starting to think door to door sales would be more lucrative.

ahh heck. I think I will get in on the band wagon. I figure if the sissies at wmw and sef can get away with being tattle tales I can. I'm going to send spam reports on everyone. I'll even snitch on .org sites just to see if I can get everyone bumped.

On occasion, there are rare merchants who are sooo distraught by being beaten in the engines that they go and do something stupid, but they do not tend to last long. Ego alone does not pay any bills.

But, any merchants with sense, will be GLAD to have their affiliates in the SERPS, even above them, and preferably totally monopolizing the engines!!
A "rank-by-proxy" at #1, with a 10% commission fee attached, is far better than a #25 with no commission fee attached. 100% of nothing, is still nothing.

I would strongly suspect a competing affiliate of being the source of the nark reports in most cases.

Three months is certainly no guarantee that the listings will last. Your friend was lucky to get that much exposure. If you're competing for sales related phrases, there's no guarantee those listings will stand for any period of time. If anybody wants to hold a listing for longer than just a few months, they need to build a site that isn't considered "thin".

search engines are unpredictable thats why I don't try for one keyword I try for as many as I can. That way one month I might be on the first page for 1 or 2 of those words and the next month I am on the first page for another 1 or 2.

Lurker, you friend keeps on giving you bad advice and speculation, maybe he should join ABW? Just an SE shift, it happens.

Rhea and I can attest that there has been a shifting in google. It happened at about 2:30 AM EDT September 22, 2005. It's costing me 1,000 page views a day.

You're right. I told him that I have 700 mb space to use between two sites, and I plan on using every bit of that space. I suggested that he continue to crank out the pages, try to create pages for terms that are not as oversaturated, like "blue widgets with coupon offer with free shipping on $20,000.00 or more!" - lol! He is not amused... I think even Google would not bump a site on a phrase/term like that. then again, Craig, Serge, and Fairy might have other plans...
