September 30th, 2005, 03:12 PM #1Cons for dedicated ip?
Moving to a new web host and noticed that even shared hosting has an option to get a dedicated ip. Is there a downside to havgin a dedicated it either technically or seo wise? It's about $80 CDN so I am thinking this will be money well spent.

That's very expensive for a dedicated IP. Very, very. Otherwise there's no down side.

I agree. I have seen other web hosts charge way less. Unfortunately, I wanted to pick a local, bigger web hosting company. That's the price I gotta pay for great service.
To be honest, I am still blown away that the new web host gave me tons of extra support. They spent almost 1 hr on the phone with me trying to solve a MySQL error. When I received one ticket back about an htaccess issue I had, I not only got the answer to my problem, they added another section of helpful hints for htaccess customizations. Granted, easy enough info to find but having tech support 24 hours a day by phone, going that extra mile AND having happy techs who talk nicely to you is a big switch for me!
Again, that's why I gotta pay the piper I believe it now when peple say you get what you pay for from a web host... most of the time.

I hope that 80 is a one time setup fee. The host I'm with charges an extra dollar a month per IP address(I think). I'm on a Virtual Private Server.Suz~~GearGirl~~

I agree... $80 is $79 to much... I get 4 IP # as part of my host plan for the cost of the plan... and additional IPs are $1 per month...
Many reseller accounts offer the feature,, as do VPS and of coarse dedicated servers...
that's my2cents, 'cuz I'm a legend in my own mind....

Yup, $80 is a one time fee. So if I host it for more then 79 months, I get the rest for free
