Ok I KNOW these clowns aren't linking to anything on my family
site but the same URLs have appeared in my referral stats
(prominently enough for me to notice because of bandwidth) for
the past few weeks. There are others, too. They're not linking to
Last year, a nuclear energy company URL was appearing in my
referral stats with alarming numbers of "hits" and I sent an
email to the contact adddy on the site. A very nice someone
answered and said they were aware of the issue and would get it
to stop, which they did only to have the same URL reappear a
few months later in big numbers again and still to this day.
Any idea what this is about and why this happens? Should I be

When I first started I had the same question but was too afraid to ask as the urls were all porn related lol. My site went from a pr 3 to being banned and the only thing I could think of was maybe the bots read the porn pages. I know its very very unlikely but thats how I found out what was going on. I called the web hosting company and my site was moved to a new server and I got different urls in the stats but they were all clean. I had nothing to lose by moving to a new server since I was in Google jail at the time.

It's log-spamming, looking for open stats that get spidered. It's for the backlinks.

And Packy is seeing the same URLs spamming his forums? Weird weird weird.
I'm sorry I posted their links in here now ... someone feel free to remove the links. I only posted them because they were SO not-family friendly and obviously something weird was going on.

"nuclear energy company"
I had the same govt. nuclear energy company (I believe) pounding one of my sites a few years ago. I don't remember the host, but the referrals eventually stopped.

I really don't understand why they would be 'pounding' OUR sites ... what's the point? I can kinda understand WebWorker's explanation of log spamming but a nuclear energy company? WHat's the purpose?!

If you break the URL's like this:
http:// ciberia.ya. com/ texas-holdem
http:// diet- pills.hk. to/
I don't know who they're, but if they're up to no good, then they don't deserve another free backlinks help.

To easily prevent links from appearing in your posts:
1) Use the "advanced" posting method.
2) Below the post-entry box on that screen, there're some checkboxes. UNcheck the one for "automatically parse links."
The URLs in that post then will not linkify.
If you edit your post later, remember to re-uncheck that box, or they will turn into links after the edit! There is no knowledge that is not power. ~Hemingway
