    Good PHP chat
Hey, anyone know of a good PHP chat script? MySQL is ok but would prefer if it was free. Chat = chat room to host group chats on a website.

    TIA!

    Hi Ian,

Have you had a look at PhpOpenChat (www.phpopenchat.org). It's FREE (open source) and I've heard good things about it.

Just checked them out but unfortunately, that site is showing 404 for me. Yikes!

Don't forget IRC. You might want to open a channel on one of the networks and host a Java based IRC client on your site. You can offer links to programs like mIRC where people can download and log in to your channel. I prefer IRC because you aren't constrained to using bulky and slow web based chat applications. I have a dedicated IRC channel for one of my sites and it maintains a good handful of regulars at all times.

I agree with the IRC channel idea.

I will have to check out the irc channel as well. thanks for the tip!

I just found x7chat.com. Looks like simple enough solution. I have installed it and it works. BUT, it requires uses to register. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this and know if x7chat can be setup to run so any users from a website can log in to chat.

Also, I noticed it can also be integrated into forums. Does anyoen know if the integration changes any of the forum files or database? Don't want something that will edit my current forum.
