Can someone recommend a good one? I going to start reading up on this, but if I can't figure it out...will pay the pro's to handle. Any suggestions?

    Thx

Nikki, SEO is not a cheap service, I'd strongly recommend that you read up on it yourself not only to try on your own, but to know what you're getting into and what to expect if you do get outside help. The more you know on your own the better off you are all around - especially long term.

Start reading here, since the *most* important thing is to know how to stay out of trouble with the engines, and mixed in with Yahoo's guidelines there's a good deal of what they're looking for. It's about the best around to get a general picture from a search engine's point of view.

    Added:

This is what it's about in a nutshell

    http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearc...anking-01.html

Bottom line is that it's about ranking for the right keywords relevant to the site's content. Good starting place for keyword research is here (they don't list singular and plural, it's all together)

Then see how many pages returned at the search engines (Google is good for that) and take a look at the sites to see how competitive different phrases are. Go after phrases, not just a single word.

This is what Yahoo wants and doesn't want

You'll need inbound links - in particular stay away from anything dodgy where that's concerned, it's one of the main things that gets hit with penalties. Find *quality* directories to submit the site to - especially ODP, but finish the site first (like the gifts page) and follow their guidelines to a *T*.

Educate yourself a bit first thing.

Nah, don't go to the bookstore. SEO is a moving target, and my the time any SEO book is pubished a lot of the details will be out of date. One exception to that is SEObook which is kept up-to-date with an online blog.

The best thing you can do is read the SEO forua to find out what is relevant now. Some suggestions are, in no particular order,

    Daily Roundups - Threadwatch.org, SEORoundTable.com, SEObook.com
    Daily Fora - The Search Engine forum here at AbestWeb.com, WebmasterWorld.com and SearchEngineWatch.com. Others worth a look-in include cre8pc.com, seoZip.com and forums.spider-food.net

That'll keep you busy! Actually, if you can devote an hour a day to read the daily news and fora, you'll be up to speed fairly quickly.

First thing you can see what Yahoo! Search has picked up from the site and what they're showing in the results page

    http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=sit...v1-&fl=0&x=wrt

So you can see that first thing you'll need to figure out your set of core keywords and phrases and put unique page titles on each page, plus add some applicable text to the pages that includes those phrases - specific to each page.

I've spent a lot of time around forums for years, and IMHO this site is one of the most under-rated and under-recognized treasures for quality information on not only sound, solid SEO, but many of the other things that go into running successful websites
