I am running an htaccess file to password protect a site. Can anything be done to customize the pop up? RIght now, it asks for Username & Password.
Can I change this fields to say something else?

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping but I think you are right.
A 2nd question then. When I upload my htaccess into the wwwroot folder, everythying works. But when a user navigates further into a dubfolder, the popup shows again asking for ID an pw. I want to password protect an entire site (with subfolders). Is there a way to make it so that the user only has to type in the id and pw 1 time and all subfolders will recognize the user?

Are you copying the .htaccess file (or the Limit code within it) into the subfolders, too? I think you just need the code in the .htaccess file in the highest level directry that you want protected.
Also, you do know that you can use "AuthName" to set the description of what is being protected, right?

I have copied the htaccess file into the wwwroot folder. I am not sure why it asks for the id & pw when a user navigates into a subfolder.
Here is my file:
AuthName "Restricted Area"
Isn't the Auth Name just what shows up on the popup?
What is the limit settings you mentioned. Can you provide more info on this?

Hmmm, my "require" line is inside of "<Limit GET>" and "</Limit>".
I'm at about the limit of my knowledge here. Maybe someone else might be able to help more.

ok, figured this out. It asks for the ID + PW again becasue I manually typed in a sub foldre in the address bar. If I code a href link from the first page and go into a subfolder from a link, the user is not prompted with the user id or pw popup.
Hope this can help someone else.
