    Need my own tech staff...
Not being able to even understand any of the tech side of AM is driving me crazy! I'm a marketer - what I need is a job where I can just devote myself to copywriting and making design suggestions, while someone else does all the tech stuff.

Dammit Jim, I'm a writer, not an IT guy!!

Maybe you should couple (in a business sense, of course ) with someone who IS an "IT guy", Lisa?! Would make a deadly combination!

Well, I married one, but he's thrown me over for a 'real' employer.

Sounds like you didn't raise him or train him right.

Find one around here! There are hundreds of them around here, Lisa! Spell out what "tech" stuff you need done, what conditions you're willing to work on (50/50 commission, fixed pay, etc) and I'm sure you'll get good response. I might have people interested in working with you... Good content writers are like gold! Consider what I'm saying seriously...

Good word. With the Internet, it can be anything! India, China, Korea... It's even more fun this way!

There should be a college or university around where you live.

Try to find someone that's a senior in computer science that need to pick up some extra money - flirt with him - and get him to help you real cheap.

Hmmm....India! I used to do all sorts of tech stuff, but it seems in the past two years, I have literally become so technically deficient that I can scarcely turn on the entertainment center without flinching.... I wonder if I passed the bulk of my intelligence to Karl during pregnancy...?

HG, LOL! They have to be a real cheap geek!

Seriously, the problem is time. I used to have tons of time to play video games and read books on everything. Now I have no time, but more stuff that needs doing. *sigh*

So what do you suppose people charge for say, setting up a database...?

    Ask Snib.

He says he's a database expert. Maybe he'll do it for you.

I hired a guy from India off scriptlance to write a forum for me. It was a disaster. He was almost never available (power and infrastructure outages, so he said) and when he completed the project it had several bugs that he was unable to fix .

I think what you need is a partner, right here

As a student studying computer science, I had to do projects for my exam. A classmate went and did tech stuff for a small business and submitted that work as the project part of the A level course (with the tutor's permission of course), got A for that and some extra cash.

Like Burger boy says. Go to a college, the computer science section and see who wants to earn some extra cash and have a project they can hand up as part of their course.

what i did at first was to outsource it to india, i was not happy at all with the service i got (thats a matter of gesture of course) and i am now am happy outsourcing it to bulgaria. probably as a matter of my origin i work better with eastern european countries rather than indian, pakistany etc...

    Yup.
I tried them twice. 1st time, I got a working project, but after looking at the code, it was a complete mess, and needed re-writing to ever upgrade (hardcoded values, inefficient functions & queries).
2nd time, they took $, and delivered something I couldn't even get to work.
    Never again...

But if you do want to do it, make sure your specs are rock solid, and good luck.
