Question Information needed on exchaning links?
Anyone knows a resource where I can get some information on exchanging links? I mean, what kind of links are good, why to link or not to link? What kind of linking can have a positive impact as far as SEs are concern or other way round. Anything that can educate me in this area.

Recently I have been receiving requests for links exchange but have very little idea on what basis should I link or just refuse.

    Thanks in advance!!!

The higher the Google PR is (5 and up), the better. You may find browsing this part of the forum helpful: http://forum.abestweb.com/forumdisplay.php?f=197

Do a search on your favorite engine. SEO+link exchanging. You will have half a lifetime of reading material.

Inbound links are what the big three search engines are looking for. The more links, the more they like you. There has been a lot of static and general noise about the value of certain links vs certain others.

I believe that an inbound link from a site with content related to the *page* on your site is valuable. Regardless of the PR of the site it comes from. Remember, Google is the PR engine. The other two biggies don't seem to care about the reputation of sites so much.

The SEO camp seems to be split on the value of recip links. My feeling is that if the content/theme of the site linking to you (and you linking to them) is related, then the link is perfectly fine.

Base your linking strategy on getting traffic (that would be traffic). Linking just to get search engine positioning is frustrating.

Visit the site in question before you agree to a link exchange. If the site/page content is worthwhile to you, then it likely is a good fit for your visitors too.

Did I mention that you should link for traffic?

and possibly 99 & 44/100 % of the unsolicited emails you get about link exchanges are useless.

    Amen.

I think some folks get too caught up in the "google pr" myth. You can have a decent google pr and still the site can't be found with any meaningful keyword searches in google...this is pretty common. Plus google is not the only engine, and what is cherry this month, may not be next month. One thing I know for sure, due to a patent google submitted, is that info from the "whois" plays a big part. If you have more than 1 site you might want to consider opening multiple hosting accounts and keeping the domains under different names. It appears they are cross checking linked domains for a common owner, maybe even nameserver, and/or if the domains are on the same ip or the ips are in a sequential order.

Personally I link to whoever or whatever for everything (except porn and gambling usually) and it seems to be effective.
