Thumbs up SE bots are darn efficient
I created a whole new site with a new site at percisely 4:48 PM November 1, 2005. Took me about 20 minutes to get a new domain name for it. Took me about an hour to create a bunch of pages. Then I connected a few of my sites to the new domain name, so I suppose its around 6:00 PM. Now its 5:00 am November 2nd 2005 and I checked my stats. Here they are
    1 6 37.50% Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1)
    2 3 18.75% Googlebot/2.1 (+http://www.google.com/bot.html)
    3 3 18.75% Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET
    4 2 12.50% Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Yahoo! Slurp; http://help.yahoo.com/
    5 2 12.50% msnbot/1.0 (+http://search.msn.com/msnbot.htm)

Look at it, within 12 hours, a new domain that had never existed before has been visited by the googlebot, the yahoobot and the MSN bot. I expect them to be in the SE within 48 hours. (Well at least in one SE anyway)

Now that is efficiency. BTW, this proves there is never a need to submit your site to the SEs. Just connect it and forget it.

    Submitting? What's that? :-)

I agree...a link or two from an established site that's getting spidered works great.

I agree that it's not necessary to submit sites to SEs as long as you have access to other indexed sites you can link from. Most of the SEs are amazingly quick to find new sites and pages.

What they do with them after they know about them is a different story. The fact they're spidered and indexed means nothing if they're buried under spam in the SERPs, or if people can't find them using appropriate search terms. That seems to be a problem right now, especially with one particular SE...

I had nothing to link my first site to. I guess I had to submit? Or did I?
