    Neil.. On a diet..
My wife announced yesterday that I was on a diet.
[nice of her to let me know]
as most of you know, i have had trouble with kidney stones.
Well i went to russia, had a weeks treatment and i have found out
that there are still more inside.
so my wife has contacted another herbal docter,
who has given her this diet that is very strict and i must stick to it for 2 weeks. ??

the first question i asked was, how many bottles of carlsberg am i aloud per day??
    Answer .. None..
ok .. that must be replaced with vodka..
    how much vodka ?.. None..
I AM ABOUT TO DIE !
Ok. what can i eat ??

Only fruit and veggies for 2 weeks, and the veggies can only be steamed.

Can someone please send me a gun, so that i can just shoot myself now
and have this thing done with.
THEN... THEN... to top it all off.
I have to drink a cup of olive oil at the end of the 2 weeks along with lots of
epsom salts to make the bloody stones come out........... i cant do this ,, HELP... HELP..

I went on a diet once, but it wasn't enough food so I went on a second diet. Between the two diets, I had plenty to eat. Never lost any weight, though.

Seriously, though... There are lots of treatments for kidney stones. You might want to look at some of the alternatives. I think they can break them up with lasers pretty effectively.

Those things aren't fun to pass. I almost gave up Dr Pepper (which was probably one of the main causes) after I had one. Fortunately, the memory fades quickly.

Hmmm, I heard that passing kidney stones is almost (and I stress ALMOST) as painful as giving birth....

Wow, "fruit and veggies for 2 weeks, and the veggies can only be steamed"... I would not want to be in your shoes.

But! If that will help it, I'd do it...

    Good luck, mate!!

My grandmother told me that, for her, kidney stones were far more painful than giving birth.

On the bright side of your diet it sounds like you aren't the one who is preparing the meal. The best tasting food is the food that someone else makes.

Seriously I would prefer a surgical alternative over THAT...

Edit: I had to check out the nonherbal treatments on that. Seems that a lot of stones can be broken up without open surgery--or drinking olive oil (which would most certainly make me throw up before it could do a thing).

Neil, it's only two weeks. You can do this. I was on a rice and water diet for two weeks once. It was no fun but it was better than being sick. Shoot, I would have killed for some fruit and veggies on that diet.

Find out if it's okay to make smoothies from the fruit. Ice + fruit in blender and it will be so yummy.

The olive oil sounds pretty gross but I bet you can do that, too. I doubt you have to chug it so just take a sip, wait for your stomach to settle and keep at it 'til you're done.

Reminds me of a TV show I saw once where a guy went in a rest. and asked if they had a healthy, low calorie lunch offering. The waiter said yes. The guy said "Great, I'll take four of them."

Best of luck on your diet Neil. Now that I have quit smoking that is next on my agenda.

i already had the ultra sound treatment in russia.
its when they smash it, with ultra waves.
the machine thats in jayys attachment.
it got rid of some , but not all.
and yes, the pain in passing them is something that i would not wish
    on anyone..
    so... lets try the diet.
last night i had baked potatoes with salad.
    with a
garlic, olive oil, lemon juice ,vinger, and herd , dressing.
    which i made myself.

this is not as hard as thought it would be
plus my wife is doing this with me , for support.
    god bless her

You're eating well, Neil. :-) Hop over to Italy for a few weeks. They'll feed you all the veggies you can eat and it'll taste amazing.

Ah your wife is really sweet!

Maybe you should find some interesting veggies recipes so you won't get bored of the idea. How about smoothies, fruit salad, or international recipes for salad!

    Get well!

I dunno . . . the tail end of that diet looks like you'd be passing them out an orifice you hadn't planned on.

I remember an old Vermont book proclaiming that running your system on the acid side (as opposed to being generally alkaline) would help prevent or even dissolve stones. Called for a certain amount of cider vinegar (could be mixed with honey) each day.

sounds better than a glop of oil to me.

i also take a teaspoon of it in the morning before i go to work.
    as this might help also..

    last nights meal:
    steamed cabbage, potatoes and broc.
    mixed salad.
    glass of tomatoe juice.

    Neil,

Olive oil is for gall stones not kidney stones. Apple cider vinegar is taken over a long period to work--usually a year.

Why not hit the doctors office, get plenty of drugs, then you won't care if you pass a stone or not & your bland diet (which is really the best thing for kidney stones) will go down allot easier.

Just don't tell your wife their pain pills. Color them blue & call them viagra. She'll love you for it!

Sorry Neil...I'm on your wife's side on this one!

I've watched my husband suffer with kidney stones over the years and it is a very hard thing to watch. He is supposed to be strict with his diet but he isn't. So I have to make sure I cook the right things and I don't keep on hand the things he isn't supposed to have. Iced tea is a biggie for him. If he drinks a lot of tea he gets stones every time.

sorry you are going through this but 2 weeks isn't so long. You can do anything for 2 weeks!

not my business, but do you wait for a symptom to show before you consult a physician? an annual physical that includes blood work should show problems that can possibly be corrected before they get out of hand. some home remedies absolutely scare me . . .

but then, I should practice what I preach.

    Neil,

Thats a boring diet. but hey, the good part is that its only for two weeks. Two weeks will pass by soon. Just spend some more time at ABW & u won't realize how time passes by.

    Wish you luck!

I'll never understand diets. Since Halloween, I've ate probably 3 pounds of chocolate, had pasta a couple times, been out to eat several times (including an all you can eat buffet yesterday), and I've lost five pounds.

My husband had his stones analyzed and his urulogist (sp?) was able to identify the things he was eating that were causing the stones. In his case, if he sticks to the diet (haha) and doesn't eat the kidney stone causing foods, he will be fine.

i dont have time for visits to the doctor ..

what you do is... just wait until one day you have the worst pain
that you have ever had in your side.
then get rushed to hospital to be told Mmmm.. Mr Neil.. you have kidney stones..

Well, good luck, Neil. At least it's not forever...although from what Zimmy says, you'll have to watch what you eat even after it's over, to keep more stones from forming!
