    the effects of ssl
Just wondering, should I put the whole site on https:// or just use it for the checkout?

If I remember correctly, someone some time ago mentioned that it hinders the se's.

    Any feedback would be great.

    Thanks

I'm wondering about this too as I just set ssl up for my checkout but haven't for the rest of the site and was curious if I should.

I would for the entire site in the event a user puts https: that way they won't get errors if they pull up a image.

However if you do that don't enter the URL for images in the HTML just the directory location

GoodBulbs runs in both the SSL and non-SSL area (except for the parts that have to be secure), so no matter what a customer types in it works.

The only pages I've seen get indexed are the non-SSL ones.

SSL should only be used for content that needs to be encrypted such as a checkout page. SSL increases load times (slightly) and se's do not index "secure" pages.

Is SSL recommended for the affiliate control panel? the merchant control panel?

I was thinking "no" since there is no real ecommerce transaction data being submitted by the user, but there is some login and personal account info. Any comments on this?

    Thanks,
    Peter

To SSL or not to SSL, that is the question.

Just ask yourself -- is the information I am gathering here sensitive in any way?

    Main Page = No.
    Sub Pages = No.
Login Page = Both - give the user the choice
    Shopping Cart = No
Check Out / Payment Processing = YES
Personal Date (SSN/EIN for Affiliate Programs) = YES

If you run the entire site on SSL, you're just causing the webserver to do more work.
