Sony music Cd's have a RootKit!
Sony is caught installing rootkits on their cd's

not sure if this is 100% true, could just be something like the hoax about homeland security keyloggers in dell laptops.

Shouldn't this be posted in the spyware area? Or in the Linkshare forum where those affiliated might make the decision to boot them on these merits (or lack thereof)?

Actually the title of the thread should be
Sony Music CDs had a RootKit.

After this broke two or three weeks ago sony a week or so later said they would not use that protection anymore.

There's probably a few million CDs already out there with the rootkit now, though...

Some Rootkit developers ( computer hackers) in Europe actual busted Sony's attempt to thwart music/video copying with a warez rootkit. Them buggers are very hard to even detect unless your equipped with hacking S/W tools. Geeks Playing with these often trash their entire hard drives or can't rid their system from a testing rootkit. They resort to a new hard drive or complete HD format. Can't even reinstall from recent backups which the rootkit modified. Sniffers and server security programs won't even detect a rootkit. Under admin rights they build and hide directories to carry out whatver in total stealth mode right to piggybacking all TCP/IP routing as some legit program.

On the frontpage of Google News right now. Nasty mess that'll cost Sony a bundle before they get to the Root cause.

We all know how well different spyware 'plays together' on the same pc. Imagine a bunch of different 'rootkits' vying for control of your computer...
Not a pleasant ordeal for the poor computer user.
