Angry I'm so pissed I'm posting this everywhere
This year I went/am going to LV 4 times. 2 of the times I stayed at palace
station. I booked one room for July through travolocity, got there had a
good time didn't use any room service or anything so when I checked out
everything was already paid for. So when I booked again for Nov 7-Nov 10th, I thought there wouldn't be any problem. I booked this time through
expedia. I cheked in and since I didn't have a problem just 3 months
earlier I really didn't read the check in document.

So I check out ands there is this 4.95 automatic hotel service fee. ($14.85
total) So I go to the desk and they said, oh its an automatic fee. I said,
WHAT??? I wasn't told about this while I was booking the thip, I wasn't told
about this before I left for LV, I wasn't even told about this when I
checked in. One would think the ^%^%( staff at the desk would point this
    out specifically.

The woman at the checkout said a bunch of things, 1) I had initially it, my
mistake, but when I said what would happen ifg I didn't she said, oh you
wouldn't have been allowed to stay here. (I'm pretty sure this is bait and
switch and is illegal in all 50 states, I suppose I'll have to write a
letter to the attorney general in Nevada to find out.) The she said, well
we have a contract with expedia, which makes me think this is collusion
between them, I don't know if everyone gets charges this fee or expedia
    visitors.

Anyway, I looked at what they are charging me a fee for and that is even
worse. This is what the fee is for
    1) Local & 800 calls (I havce a cell phone I don't need your local calls,
plus there r lots of pay phones when 800 numbers r free and local is maybe
    50 cents.
    2) Fitness Facility (I didn't know they had one, I never heard of it and I
    don't know where it is
    3) Free Notary Service ---ON the invoice they actually calling it Free Notary Service, they used the word free---(Well I would never need a notary when I'm on vacation, also its only $2 if I did and finally, if its free why are you
charging me $4.95 for a free service....what part of free do they not
    understand.)
    4) Free shuttle bus service to/from FS Mall & McCarran Airport (I never
used any of these servicews since neither was convenient, when I went to the airport I was leaving hours after checking out and was no where near the
hotel. Also, I liked to gamble at the Stratosphere, they had holdem
tournaments and down town, but once again, what part of the word FREE do they not understand.)
    5) Coupon book (fun books are all over LV and they r all free, I did get
some silly sheet that said I could get a few things if I joined the slot
club or whatever it is called)
    6) Line Pass to Restaurants (Not sure what that meant, but I didn't eat in
their restaurants anyway I was up early being on psuedo east coast time, when I went to the restaurant they said they would be open at 6 am, but I was gone by then.) Hey that is right, if this is a benefit I was getting for
paying an extra $4.95, why didn't anyone tell me aout it.
    7) 20% discount, you are making me pay $4.95 a day to get a 20% discount on stuff I didn't want, why not just lower the price for everyone, idiots.

Anyway none of these things are worth any money to me and I told them that unless they refund the money I'll never stay or gamble in a station
hotel/casino again and I won't. They are darm inconvenient to get to
    anyway.)

On a happier note I won $350 in LV

That sucks. What's worse are the bed taxes. How the heck do you know that in advance? You check out and there it is some gawd awful 30% tax for a lousy room...

How about I'll give you the five bucks if you join our program and have two sales in the next 30 days... :-) We are over at LinkShare under "ProHealth". Questions? Call me or drop me an e-mail.

    Mike,

You seem tense, Now $4.95 hidden (or not) charge appears to be a very small thing to get all worked up about, although I commend your valor based on the principle of the matter, what you had written leaves me wondering if it is the bad response and service that got you hot rather than the $4.95 charges. I hope you have a nice relaxing weekend hopefully surround by lifes rewards, like family and friends.
    Take care

Business attitude used to be: provide a good product and good service and the customer will return.
Now its: pile on the fine print, hidden charges, and loopholes, who cares if the customer returns.
    I'm generalizing of course...

A lot of Vegas hotels are starting to charge these fees. Some call them resort fees or energy surcharges, Either way, it's still complete BS.

I like the electric charges that always pisses me off so I leave all the lights on when I go out lol.

One time in Atlanta they charged me $12 a day for energy charge. I am still pissed off about that one.

Hey Mike that post could of been a nice content page on a travel site, you should take up writing.

Got this a few weeks back ... might ease your mind

Next time you think your hotel bill is too high you might want to
    consider
    this:

A husband and wife are traveling by car from Key West to Boston.

After almost twenty-four hours on the road, they're too tired to
continue, and they decide to stop for a rest. They stop at a nice hotel
and take a room, but they only plan to sleep for four hours and then get
    back on the road.
When they check out four hours later, the desk clerk hands them a bill
    for $350.
The man explodes and demands to know why the charge is so high. He tells
the clerk although it's a nice hotel, the rooms certainly aren't worth
    $350.

When the clerk tells him $350 is the standard rate, the man insists on
    speaking to the Manager.
The Manager appears, listens to the man, and then explains that the
hotel has an Olympic-sized pool and a huge conference center that were
available for the husband and wife to use.

"But we didn't use them," the man complains.
"Well, they are here, and you could have," explains the Manager. He goes
on to explain they could have taken in one of the shows for which the
hotel is famous. "The best entertainers from New York, Hollywood and Las
Vegas perform here," the Manager says.

"But we didn't go to any of those shows, "complains the man again.
"Well, we have them, and you could have," the Manager replies.

No matter what facility the Manager mentions, the man replies, "But we
    didn't use it!"
The Manager is unmoved, and eventually the man gives up and agrees to
    pay.
He writes a check and gives it! to the Manager.

The Manager is surprised when he looks at the check. "But sir," he says,
this check is only made out for $50."
"That's correct," says the man. "I charged you $300 for sleeping with my
    wife."

"But I didn't!" exclaims! the Manager.
Well, too bad," the man replies. "She was here and you could have."

I think I only paid $80 for the 3 night stay to begin with, not sure it was a package with the air fare, but $15 is an 18% increase and that is alot on anything. But that isn't the point. What they did was in my opinion illegal. What's the difference in paying for a diamond ring for say $500 and then when you pick it up they charging you an extra $100 for them to actually give the ring to you? We agreed upon a price I paid it 2 months in advance I came all the way there and then they charge me more than I had agreed to. This is bait and switch I agreed to be charge $80 with tax and they charge me $95. I'm not sure whether to contact the better business bureau or the attorney general of Nevada. I am also not sure if I should be more pissed at expedia (who I sent an email too and I'm waiting for a reply) or palace station. The point is its not the money its the principle. Being ripped off is being ripped off. Lets say your mugged, should be more pissed the more money you are carrying? Being mugged is being mugged.

You had to remember this was at 11 PM at night pacific time and I woke up that morning eastern time so to me it was 2 am.. When I checked in, there was no way I was going to demand my money back which they wouldn't have given me easily and start looking for a cheap room. They had me by the balls and that is what pisses me.

Falcon my friend, I have an idea, lets split it, we can put my post on your site with 2 adsense ads one with your code and one with mine so we split the money? (I know you have a travel site like that) What do you think :-) Maybe I can earn back my $14.85.

If they just take a few dollars from each person it's not worth the trouble to do anything about it. They can get away with it for a long time. And they probably will.

Donna, well they don't know me very well. The big guys never rip me off because I'm careful and if a small fry tries this I get them. 5 years ago I refused to eat at pizza hut because they told me they didn't have any small pies, but I could buy a medium pie at full price, when I told him, hey small pies r made of the same thing as big pies just smaller, they still insisted they didn't have any small pies. Got me so pissed, I sent letters to the manager and pizza hut corporate.

You know I never heard back from eiother of them I should quit pizza hut again ;-)

You know while browsing google for Hotel fees in las vegas.

I found a lot of hotels that charge a 4.95 resort fee per day.

So it doesn't appear to be a bait and switch but more of an uninformed consumer.

They probably had only med. and large dough-balls ready for baking, and weren't about to make a new batch up just for you.

Judging by that comment, you w*rked there at some point, so I'm sure you knew how the production goes. Are you just trying to give yourself a heart attack by being so Type A?

Heading to Vegas in a couple weeks. Staying at the Belagio, wifey wanted to stay there one time. Usually we just find what's cheapest, and in LV you don't stay in the room much anyway. But, it's our 15th anniversary, so I wiped the cob webs off my CC and sprang the extra bucks. 'bout kilt me, too, seeing all that good gambling money go to nighty nite time.

So, sorry they tagged you with an extra fee, that's not right!
Following everyone else is a GREAT way to become average.

    Talking I don't have a type A personality
But no one screws with me twice. If I had a type A I would have yelled my head off. What I did was sulk away and write letters. There is just sopmething absurd as going to a pizza hut ordering a pizza at 6:30 PM and being told we don't have any.

The pizza hut people had dough,m sauce and fixings. You take the dough from a few medium pizzas, put trhem together and then recut them for a bunch of smaller pizzas, that's what you do. If I ran the store I would do it like that. But the pizza hut people had 3 options.
    1) Tell me that it'd take two hours for them to make the dough and I could wait. If I didn't want to wait I could buy a medium pizza or go home (this is what they did and I went home, I live in NYC there r 1000s of pizza places here.
    2) Find a way to make a small pizza with the dough they had and appolgize for making me wait the 10 extra minutes it would have taken.
    3) Offered a medium pizza at $4. At that time it was buy a pizza and get one for $4 (its $5 I think now) Wouldn't have made a difference to them. So I didn't buy the one at regular price, this is the cost they have for not having enough supplies in the first place. BTW this was at 6:30 pm, they should be expecting people to buy lots of pizzas then.

In my opinion they made the wrong chioice. Options 2 or 3 are preferable. When you are in the business of selling pizza pies, then during the dinner time you should have pizza pies. It wasn't like I was asking for something obscure. There are certain expectations in life and one of them is, if you go into a pizza hut during dinner time and ask for a standard pizza, you shouldn't be told that they don't have any and to come back in 2 hours when they will have some more. Can you imagine going to a Mac Donalds and asking for a big mac and not getting one, or KFC and not getting chicken?

It started with cell phones - hotels weren't making a profit on calls... so they started adding $4.95 for free local calls - even though you don't use the phone

The energy surcharge is leftover from - can't remember their name - the big bankrupt electric company that fixed prices in california and the west. The "crisis" has been over for years... but the surcharge remains

Then they added the water surcharge when the drought hit - one would think the shower we take is INCLUDED in the room price

You should really be ticked at the room tax. Since we have no state taxes here - every time we need money, we raise the room taxes for that neverending supply of tourists

My personal pet peeve is they can legally hold twice the normal room rate on your credit card. They don't BILL your credit card, but they make the funds unavailable for 10 business days - which is almost a month!!

If I'm comped a suite at The Mirage, they hold funds of $982 per day for the average rate of the suite, plus $982 a day because people generally charge a day's room rate worth of stuff to their room - effectively wiping out my credit card - even though I didn't charge anything

was comped a few days at The Trop

knowing they would rape my credit card, I told her I'd pay the $16.95 resorts fees in cash in advance

but i'm NOT lettin' you swipe my card

she confers with the desk manager...

if we can't swipe the card, we require a $400 cash deposit per day!!!!!!

I think this country needs to revolt against corporations that think they can get away with charging consumers for "fees and taxes" etc. It's interesting when you call the phone company and talk to them about the $10 in taxes and fees, surcharges, they say the "FCC makes them do it". That's BS, they petition the FCC to be able to charge us these fees then they blame the FCC! Crazy.

    Mike...

The Polo Towers is one of the first hi-rise luxury apts/condos on the Strip

    Older... but still nice

    Next to Bellagio

No entrance from the strip. Ask Loxly how much her cabfare was while the driver kept going around the block looking for the entrance
