Problems with tabs within text fields
    Hello there

I am using WebMerge version 2.4

My data source file has tab delimiters. I have checked the box for "text values are in quotes".

Some of my records have text fields that contain tabs,. When I view these records in the Webmerge 'Sources' window it all looks OK.

However when the actual web pages are generated the data goes haywire eg entries for various records are misplaced and transposed. When I remove the tabs by hand in these records the web pages look OK.

Shouldn't activating the 'text values are in quotes' box ensure that things such as tabs occuring within text fields are not treated as delimiters?

One would think so. However, when I run jobs I consider any extraneous tabs as a problem and remove them beforehand. Do you have to have the tabs within the fields?

They can be removed in Excel pretty easily. I usually use Excel combined with a text editor to automate this type of data feed file modification.

Yes, it should. I'll fix this ASAP.

The reason the anomaly's there is that it's extremely rare to have in-data tabs. Where did this data originate from?

    problem with tabs in fields
The data comes from the Access database of our medical research programme's 500+ (and growing) projects which we plan to update weekly.

Some of the fields are descriptions of the project provided by each grantholder in free text format and we can't stop them from formatting them the way they want - which may include tabs. We could write a routine to go through all the projects and strip out the tabs but this would take up a lot of time each week.

Thanks for the info. Please email me the data file so I can use it to test the fix I'm working on.

any progress on the tabs problem
    Hello there

Just wondering if Fourth World received the database file I sent and whether you have now fixed the bug or whether you will incorporate something in the next release.

    Thanks

Quite possibly, but I don't see an email from "Sontoman" in my In Box. Please feel free to follow up email in email so I can make sure I'm looking for the right address.

Thanks for following up with your email. A new test build of v2.4.1 has been posted which should correct this issue:

    Win:
    http://www.fourthworld.com/products/...W_WebMerge.exe

    Mac:
    http://www.fourthworld.com/products/...bMerge.app.zip

Those are the applications only -- just drop them into the WebMerge program folder and double-click to launch.

Please let me know how this change works out for you, and if any others here have time to test it would be especially good to verify that the change doesn't adversely affect CSV files.

    Glad to be of service.

Now if we can get a couple of others using CSV to confirm that this new build doesn't adversely affect that format I'll be able to post it as a final release, and then on to finishing v2.5.
