Sounds like a hoax to me.

I thought the 703 area code sounded familiar - it's just a small area in Virginia, NOT Washington, DC.

Others have gotten it, and the "IP" part is a giveway for starters. Supposedly answering it triggers a virus

How about asking the Panda Software guys about it?

It would be great to have the CIA put some detect and destroy source plan in place for these perps. Be like the Preditor Drones hellfire missleing the Al-Quada buttholes. A few Hellfire missles through the Phishers CRT's would put a stop to this crap.

Good antivirus software that is updated daily is your best bet. You can't just buy antivirus software and not update it. I update daily, but that might be extreme.

I don't think it is extreme anymore. Consider that the criminal element has joined the hacker element this year and some viruses can cost you much more than your hard drive.

I recently got an email warning of the latest phishing scam. You get a call or email stating that there is a warrant out for you because you didn't show up for jury duty. This and other scare tactics, ie FBI, CIA, etc. seems to be the newest rage in phishing scams.

I don't want to put a blatant plug in here (but am going to). Before Pandasoft came here (and before I knew they had an affiliate program), I used their software to remove a nasty piece of cr*p from my Daughter's machine. I used the cheapo package, that's $15./yr. You have to connect to their servers to make it work properly, and are assured of the latest protection/hunting capability (as I recall).

Actually, they were a last resort, and were the only one that worked in removing the combination worm/adware. I tried all of the others (who I previously had great faith in), I won't list them, but you all know who they are.

My 2 cents worth - sorry.

    Fred
PS: I guess it's time to actually join their program.

Antivirus protection and a good firewall are a must on the Internet today. I think of them like a lock on the front door of my house. If you find people that are not that interested in this type of protection, ask them if they leave their front door unlocked when they go to work. Most will say no and that's when you tell them that having a computer online all the time without up-to-date antivirus protection is like leaving their house unlocked when they're gone. I've used this saying several times and it seems to give folks without a clue, a mental image of how important it is to keep their computer protected.

Yup. That and being smart with one's browsing habits, and email habits. There is almost no excuse for those that get a worm by email, if they know where their attachements are coming from.

I wonder how many here still view their email with the HTML turned on?

Thanks for the kind words. We're in an industry with some giants, and having a superior product has been our focus since the beginning.
