Angry just got ripped off by a seller on ebay
grrrrr. I'm out to the tune of $200

After waiting patiently for 1.5 weeks, but not recieving a parcel I wrote to the guy and here is what he replied:
pls accept my sincere apologies.both my ebay and paypal accounts have been
hijacked a couple of days ago,it happened when i received an email from
paypal asking for my account and bank details, after i finished the form and
clicked submit button,an instant download was performed, although i've
changed passwords immediately but it was too late,a couple of minutes later
i cannot log in and the next day, my bank was left with only 1 quid.and all
the money in my paypal account was also all gone.the hijacker,a girl named -
(*removed just in case it's real*) - has done some serious
damage to my reputation apart from stealing all my money, she left neg
feedbacks on my behalf and bought loads of things without paying.i promise
    i won't let her go easy.regarding your payment,since i use a dropshipper in
singapore as my supplier,i was supposed to transfer the
money to them after all 10 buyers' payment was cleared but it never
happened since the money was stolen... sorry for buyers who were told their
items were shipped, actually the 1st 10 were supposed to be shipped
out on last Thursday and shipping takes 1 to 2 days since my supplier use
international express mail, but all never happened 'cause my bank was
emptied and i couldn't transfer the money to my supplier... along with your
payments, i have lost a total of 3600 GBP... i have contacted ebay and
paypal and have just restored my accounts, i also called the police and
they are looking into the matter at the moment. i am terribly sorry about
all these hassle and please rest assured all your money will be refunded in
full once the loss is recovered. please give me your full name, bank
account number, sort code and swift code, i will refund through bank
transfer later. for those who have been left ridiculous negtive feedback,
please kindly note that it was not me,who had done that and
i will try to withdraw them. thanks for your patience and understanding,
and sorry again! i will put all my energy in finding this criminal and
bring him/her to justice and recover your loss! thanks a lot!
Is this guy legit or a total scammer?

I love the way he asks for my bank details!!!!

I used to love eBay until all the scamming started...i got a phishing letter last week asking why i didn't pay for my item I bid on and would be turned in to eBay if i didnt click and remit...the auction ebay was a good # and seller (for an item listed 2 years ago...that i didn't bid on) but very creative.
Check that seller out and see how long he has been an ebayer and look at old feedback...if he is real new, I'd say you were taken for a ride...

This person sounds like a scammer! If they sell ebay they would know better than to give out their bank number. This is a setup IMO. Report him at once (for asking for your bank acct #) and start the process of getting refunded under the Buyer Protection Plan at http://pages.ebay.com/help/tp/isgw-b...ion-steps.html

    TT,
You got ripped off. This guy is no victim. You are the victim. I would send him a very harsh letter demanding he borrow the money to repay you from someone before you come after him for fraud.

He is trying to get your bank info so he can scam you again. The only way to deal with this guy is to be tough and unbending.

Everything sounds legit - up until the part where he asks for your bank account info....

What is his history like? Has he been registered awhile? You may have gotten that email from the scammer and the real user hijacked. So sad...

Sorry about your loss - did you pay through Paypal and buy insurance by chance?

eBay is a scammer's paradise. There are certain products where *every* auction is a scam (usually with a hacked account), and still eBay do nothing. Reporting it to eBay makes no difference.. they just don't care any more.

If you paid with Paypal simply file a complaint. If you paid with credit card, request a chargeback. Either way you should not be let holding the empty bag.

I just got taken on EBay too, so don't feel too bad.
I'm not out quite as much as you, but it still burns.
The ONE time I didn't follow my own rules, I get taken.

Definitely a scammer - hope you get your money refunded!

I buy often from eBay, but usually only art, books and antiques in specific niches, and only if I've got a good sense of market value and think the eBay price is a bargain. I stick with sellers with 99%+ feedback, multiple sales, and a lengthy history as a seller, pay via Paypal, make sure to get fixed shipping quotes and usually spring for insurance, so I've never gotten burnt. <keeping my fingers crossed!>

But even the power sellers can have a scammy side, like any merchant, I suppose. I spotted one huge dealer *scandinavian porcelain* who's been on eBay for years, listing an unsigned oil copy of a Bouguereau piece "Evening Mood" as a "Venus" painting by an unknown artist, that sold for $400+ last month. It's one thing to list an unsigned canvas of an original subject, and another for it to be a copy by an art student of a major piece. I was surprised when he didn't change the auction listing to include this info after I emailed him, considering his reputation as a dealer, and I'm sure that buyer is going to be super pissed when someone clues him in!

I bought a pair of shoes 5 weeks ago and haven't received them yet. I emailed the seller after reading this post and here is the reply I got:

~ Thank you for emailing me. If you have tried to contact me prior to this I apologize for not being able to respond. I was recently in the hospital for treatment of Pnuemonia in both lungs and have been bed-ridden for the past several days. I have received an ok from my doctor to slowly resume normal activity and will answer all emails in the order received. If you like you may email me your phone number and I will contact you in person.

I am able to provide proof of hospitalization and illness upon request ~

I don't think I'm going to get my shoes

Lola, if you paid for this purchase using Paypal I advise you make a complaint or request a refund, as far as I am aware Paypal has a limit of 45 days to make a complaint.

ebay is the thieves paradise and should be forced by the law enforcers to either clean or close up!

There was a program on Canadian TV a while back about a guy who at first had trouble selling what he stole, he joined ebay and now he employes hundreds of thieves to steal for him. It said he could get enough products for the demand.
One day parasites and their ilk will be made illegal, I bet a few Lawyers will be pissed off when the day comes.

    Two contradictions within the email:

    1. Wants you to give him your bank account number. Right after he supposedly got burned giving his out.

    2. Will be able to reimburse you your price but doesn't have enough money to pay shipping.

This is an ebay phishing scheme with a new twist - I have a feeling you will not hear from this person again nor will ebay be able to track them down. From what I read at ebay you should be covered under the paypal or ebay buyer protection plan up to $200.
