    Cold As Ice
I live in Central Texas and if you guys haven't heard, it's cold as ice down here today. We're not use to all this cold weather and ice so the police have been busy all day working fender benders. I had to dig in the closet today and find my coat. Ok, I know you folks in the northeast think this is no big deal, but it's pretty big to us. Kind of like a 105 degree summer day would be up there. Hopefully, things will clear up tomorrow. Didn't someone, somewhere say something recently about "Global Warming"?

WE had a few days of those and then some this past summer (well at least close to it )... I seen on my local news that it was like 29 in Texas. They showed cars scattered all over an icy bridge and a semi-truck just sitting there spinning tires.

Okay, for the 87th time, global warming is about climate, not weather. It doesn't address short-term local or regional events but rather long-term, hemispheric and global change.

But I am sorry you're freezing your spurs off down there. I'm sure some of us northerners could scrape together an emergency shipment of thermal undies just in case FEMA doesn't come through for you.

We get 105 degree days here too.

That's a bit chilly... But it can't outdo the Mich-erator.

    It's 10F here, with a windchill of 3. Now *that's* enterprise-level coldness!

    LOL @ hot flashes

Was -1 this morning and a big whopping 6 on the way home from work. They sell no nose hair trimmers around here. Go outside, breathe deep, tap bridge of nose, shake head, go back inside.

Hutch, I really do understand your discomfort. It didn't take long at all, once I moved to Florida, to start feeling chilled to the bone when the temp dropped into the fifties. I was very surprised at how quickly I got used to cold weather again when I moved back north.

Our low tonight is supposed to be 12, with wind gusts from 10 to 20 mph. I guess that puts us in the minus column when wind chill is factored in. But the wood stove is cranking and it's 75 degrees in my office!

As for the global warming misunderstanding, all too often I hear people saying what you said and utterly believing it. It gets to the point where I just want to rap them on the head with something, you know?

Chicken, I hope you're are correct about that heating bill. That would be nice!

Rhea, Not everyone in the southern part of the country agrees with the head in the sand approach of folks like Rush Limbaugh on the issue of "Global Warming". Yes, it is a problem and it is effecting all of us. It's the solutions to the problem that some of us might disagree with. At least most folks know that this is a problem and at least that's much better than it was 10 years ago.

Since I don't have the opportunity to speak to many southerners I was actually referring to not-too-bright northerners.

Last I checked stupid didn't correlate with latitude.

BTW, my very best friend is from Texas.

I didn't mean to be defensive. Sometimes it seems like the media talks down to us like we don't have a clue what's going on. Many of us research major issues daily, that's all I meant. Sorry if it sounded like I was talking down to you.

Leader, is it safe to say you're not drinking "French" wine tonight?

I was aiming that at Rhea. She's the one who started snooting about and calling those who don't sheepily agree "stupid," after all.

When I see things like a large part of a continent freezing its fricking butt off with colder-than-normal temperatures I think it's unwise to dismiss it as "regional"--as if we're supposed to ignore what's going on right in front of our faces!

    Record Setting Cold

20 Degrees COLDER than normal there, too

    Even California ain't balmy

    Regional my eye!

Looks like I got in the middle of a fight here. That was not my intention because my hands are much to cold to be punching anyone tonight!

Akiva, that's a good idea, but a measure of last resort.

I'd rather find one of these mythical warmer-than-normal areas, and park myself in it (provided that it's not in an equatorial war zone or some other ungood place)!

@mhutch - It's too cold to type much, too, at least about stuff like gl*bal w*rming. I just checked weather.com...it's already down to 7! But, no windchill, now. The wind itself probably froze and fell to the ground!

    Predictable.

This is the type of information I base my POV on. From the National Academy of Sciences: http://lab.nap.edu/nap-cgi/discover....global+warming.

Akiva must be doing a booming long john undies business selling into the liberal socialist/Commie/USA Flag burning crowd of yahoos at these worthless Global Warming junk science fiascos. The Global Warming anti-American crowd might be adding to the problem by publically burning all recent scientic proof there is no eminent Global climate change due to USA & Leading World Powers industrial/civilian activities.

Now giving the Mussie and Frozen Korean Madmen Nukes and allowing China and India to openly practice 1930's style industrial air/water/land polution could have an effect. The USA is the ONLY country who has lowered all types of environmental polutants in the last 10 years ... yet these Global Warming feakoids want to criple USA growth by 1 trillion dollars with the reduced output going to 3rd world poluting countries.
