    2006 Predictions
It's that time of year again...time for predictions for next year.

So dust off your crystal ball, get out your tea leaves or interpret that dream from last night and tell us what you predict as major events/trends in 2006 for Affiliate Marketing.

My first prediction (as well as possibly the first major event in 2006 in AM) is a buyout of ValueClick.

    quality over quantity..
    * More exclusive networks...who are very particular about their affiliates...the 'new breed of affiliates' that is As everyone knows a few major affiliate players can produce the impact of hundreds of average affiliates. more and more 'firms' are strategically planning their affiliate efforts, as opposed to individuals workin from basements late a night.. nothin against the individuals in the basements.. I am one of them... but there are some Very savvy groups planning, budgeting, testing, developing and coming out with incredibly unique models to build a loyal user base IN ADDITION to winning the converting SE placements.

    also..

    * progressive, innovative tools that drive the traffic through output of crawlable content..... and...these tools need to be free of charge.

    --

plus MSN comin' alive in 06...? after all I just heard on the news that Gates is paying people in Indonesia and other places to use his search engine. he's buyin his market share. i am actually seeing my MSN traffic convert better than my google traffic the last two weeks... it's almost like 'shoppers' in 'shopping mode' are using MSN more and more all the time. i want my content pages/aff links in front of those eyes.

The 'new breed of affiliates' will crash and burn because of their illegal downloads and other infestations and the average affiliate working from his/her basement will dominate even more.
All the merchants that use said 'new breed' go out of business.

I need to jump on the Ggle bandwagon, and say they will own more information about us than ever before (duh), including the mobile computing and communicating environment. They just keep gathering and gathering.

Frankly, I'm not sure the affiliate game is going to change all that much. But I think the smarter affiliates will gravitate to smarter, automated technologies to help build and maintain sites.

The currently-running Dot-Boom 1.2, which is just as dumb as dot-boom 1.0 was, and is operating on the exact same faulty premise as the last time, will continue for at least another year.
Then (2 or 3 years later when the VC money's all burnt up. Again...) it'll BUST again just like before, when the Cold Hard Fact that loitering eyeballs != money once again shows itself to be the immovable object that it is--and that "getting buzz" is just a propagandish way of saying "getting eyeballs." Same in, same out: CRASSHHH...

The GOOGLE ALGO will continue to randomly change. 99% of the populace will continue to think there is some kind of rhyme or reason to it, despite the fact that every change brings whining from owners of every conceivable type of site regardless of said sites' merits or lack thereof. In fact, many will note how "junk" rules the index after said bingo-ball-machine-like switchups occur.

Fortunately, there still will be nothing better to do than spend time on here, arguing about the prior point and related topics with content-is-kingers and derivatives thereof.

We will all continue to make sites the way we each think is best, regardless of all such arguing.

CJ will continue its ill-thought campaign to try to equal LinkSnare in the suckage department.
For some reason, neither one will get a Darwin Award out of the suckage competition.

As for affiliate marketing in general, I figure it'll be more of the same, along with some unnecessary upheavals caused by herd-mentality AMs following the latest site-design, and possibly other, non-thought-out fads.

Iraq will become the 52 state and piss off puerto rico who will have to become the 53rd.
So, who's going to be the 51st state?

MSN will become the default search for AOL and Netscape reducing Google's growth potential. By year end (2006) Google shares will be selling below $200 per share. 50% less than their high. Most of that market cap will be picked up by Microsoft because of this change and the release of their new operating system. Bill Gates net worth will increase to 75-80 billion dollars by years end.

    - I predict that Haiko will start an affiliate network with a few other ABW masters. CJ & LS will go downnnnnnnnnn because 99% of self-respecting affiliates will no longer use them, leaving the merchants no choice but to make the switch. :-) ABW Network and SAS (and hopefully SR, too) will rule by 2008. It'll be so easy and everyone who isn't scamming will make well-deserved money from their combined honest efforts.

    - Affiliates will be able to actually see what is happening with their visitors once they click through to a merchant so trust will be built and the whining will stop once and for all.

    - Susan will marry the man of her dreams and he'll be bald but beautiful and he'll be in AM, too.

    - Charlie will learn HTML on the sly and take over Mike's sites while Mike sleeps, creating the best coupon-lovers shopping mall online.

    - Mike (Hardware Geek) will discover a way to create life-like porn interaction via the Internet and have the most highly trafficked site in history.

    - Uncle Scooter will become a roaming evangelist, traveling throughout the country, preaching sanity to the homeless and passing out free shoes to street people.

    - Personalization Mall will go brick & mortar and we'll see a 'PMALL' in every shopping mall across the country (all current affiliates will have a discount card).

-Rhea will move to Italy and start selling Italian cheese on the Internet.

    - Mr Sal will learn Photoshop and create a whole new line of smilies.

    - TrustNo1 will start a AM consulting company, teaching noobs how to make money online and creating untold amounts of competition.

    - Walt Disney will thaw out and drop dead of a heart attack when he sees what Disney execs did to his once pristine company and how badly they treat their employees.

    - E.Ts will visit earth, they'll look like rock stars and take control of the planet, legalize pot and create a peaceful, rockin' world.

    - Oh and the 51st state will be Ferguston ... ruthlessly capitalistic and will dominate the world by controlling all major manufacturing, media and technological industries.

I'll finish my novel and it'll be a best seller.
    Peace,

    Rexanne

Merchants will get smart and give us the tools to build our own stores. The customer will never have to leave our site to place the order but the orders will go direct to the merchant where we don't have to deal with them.

Jane, I agree that stores on an individual site are next. I have received a couple offers today to set that up for me. (not totally convinced I want to do that.)

I believe we are going to see a halt to rising interest rates. But, we are going to have to start paying for the war and that means a tough recession.

The big department stores are going to continue to disappear and struggle. Within 5 years, there will only be Federated left. The internet sales will continue to grow.

I think Google has problems defining what they want. The more they confuse the customer, the more market share they will lose. (Plus, who is their customer they are trying to please, the guy who pays for clicks or the searcher who pays nothing.)

I, too, am seeing MSN and Yahoo do alot more for my site. This is a fairly recent increase.

Whew! with that said, I think we will all do fine next year.

Apple will merge with a major cellphone company and offer credit on its new handheld POD......
and the "do-it-all" will be born.

    Phone
    TV (aleady have it)
    MOVIE (already have it)
Internet (short step for the ipod to make)
Mail (both video and text, once the net is on it of couse this will be there)
digital credit not plastic anymore (this is a bit of a strech but digital payment is not far off)
    Music (mp3, already has it)
    Photo Album (already has it)
Camera (not sure if an ipod has it just yet)
    Flash drive (alreday has it)
And it will all be done via Broad Band Wireless.
(this Makes Verizon a good canidate for the merger)

All the devices are out there & are begging to be merged
We will have a working device of this sort by 4th quarter next year in time for Christmas. It will be the size of a current ipod or Razr V3 phone with massive Flash storage and duel processors.

And of course we will all want one!
