    Software to sniff data....
Does anyone know of a software that one can run on their own computer that will show which program on your machine is sending & receiving data over the internet connection and how much data it is moving?

Sort of like a packet sniffer, but it has to show me which programs is doing what.

    Thanks in adavance...

ZoneAlarm is a personal firewall that allows you to allow/block applications from accessing the internet and shows which applications are currently in use. They have a free personal version and a purchasable version with more advanced features.

If you don't have a firewall on your computer, I'd suggest you install one asap. You'd be surprized how many packet requests (ICMP) you receive on your computer from the outside. ZA does a good job of blocking those incoming requests. The MS firewall is good but gives you less control over what's going on.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Here is an explanation of what I am needing to do.

I have a network of computers at home. It has worked great up until a couple weeks ago.

I have an XP machine acting as my server down in the basement. The network contains the server, my machine, my daughters machine, and my laptop. Attached to my router. Attached to the router are the computers, but for the laptop it is a wireless router. All machines share my printer.

When it is just my machine and the server, it runs as expected. But suddenly when we add in the laptop my machine crawls to the point that I can't go anywhere and pretty much just give up.

I want to see if the laptop is pulling from my machine when it is booted up or something similar and exactly what programs are using how much bandwith.
