Fonts screwed up with new monitor
Okay, I should have done a little research before I bought this fancy Dell laptop. Here's my problem. On almost any page I view there is font somewhere that is rough on the edges or blury. It did not bother me much until I opened Dreamweaver and discovered I can't read any of the toolboxes on the screen (see attached image).

My display is: LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.4, Wide Super Extended Graphics Array, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., SAMSUNG and I have the resolution set at what it came at, 1680x1050. I've tried other resolutions, but still the same problem.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Have you tried adjusting the settings under the Appearance tab in your Display Properties? Seems like a font issue there or possibly the font your current appearance is using is missing for some reason.

Not sure if this will help or not, but TweakUI (part of Powertoys for Windows) has an option to Repair the Font Folder.

Did you download a bitmap font recently. Seems like a bitmap font is getting miked up with a default windows font. Sometimes amatuer font designers use default fonts as a template to creating their own fonts, it can happen that the fonts designer did not take the time to change all the font properties so your system might think you are using a default font, when the font is an edited font.

My 19 year old son changed the DPI and it is no clear but I will need to buy strong reading glasses to read it all. Wonderful!

He tells me I need to get rid of the five year old Dreamweaver I'm using (and by the way he wants to Flash software that comes with it). Hmmmm.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm still playing with it.

    Hmmm indeed!
A 5-year old DW shouldn't be doing that. My old one works fine on Ma's computer...

It looks to me like the default font has been changed. I recognize that one in your pic--not well enough to know the name of it, but it's one of the ones that comes up as available when I use the word processor.

If it was me I'd just keep messing around until I found the way to change it back. Without buying another DW.

Did you try right clicking on your desktop, choose properties.

Next, click on appearance, then click on the effects button.

Checkmark the box that says "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts" and in the drop down box, choose ClearType.

Hit Ok, then apply, then close out of the properties.

    You need to go to

    Control Panel>Display>Appearance>Advanced

and scroll thru the items, the default fonts on my system are

Active Title Bar - Trebuchet MS
    Icon - Tahoma
Inactive Title Bar - Trebuchet MS
    Menu - Tahoma
    Message Box - Tahoma
    Palette Title - Tahoma
    Selected Items - Tahoma
    Tooltip - Tahoma

If any of the above items have been changes, then select the item and change it to the default listed above.

Most likely it is the Menu font that has been changed, change it back to Tahoma.

JJJay, Just checked and all my settings are identical to yours. Still investigating.

    Michelle, same for that setting.

Thanks, though. I appreciate your time and effort.
