I took a forum off of one of my sites and would like to send any traffic from any old indexed pages back to mydomain.com/. What's the most professional and Google friendly way? There seems to be several options out there.

Header( "HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently" );

Thanks for the help all. I probably wasn't clear enough in my post. I want to redirect such as http://www.mydomain/forums/any/other/foo.php, but thanks to your clues I have it now. Here is what worked.
I added to .htaccess in the root directory.
RedirectMatch 301 "^/forums/(.*)$" "http://www.mydomain.com/"
