    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_feed

But in AM the "feed" is data consisting of:

Urls to pics, SKUs, data prices and descriptions of thier products

    ... of the merchant's program.

    Keep aksing.

Easy access to a wide range of data that would be difficult without XML. XML allows third parties to access your data without having to have database permissions, special access etc.

XML is usually live data as well - unlike CSV which is dumped, XML can be grabbed real time. So when a merchant adds new seasonal products to their database the XML replicates that. Since your website is polling the XML it will instantly be aware of the new seasonal products.

XML is constructed in a logical fashion as well.. so programmers can easily code around it. Once they know how they can create some cool innovative websites, or software around your XML.

For affiliates it enables us to build content rich websites fast.. keep up to date with new products easily with very little long term effort. If you use many XML feeds together you can create price comparism websites - many possibilities.

There are many benefits for using data feeds, and relatively few for doing so specifically in XML:

Fortunately most merchants publish feeds in more common delimited formats, like tab-delimited and CSV, so it's very rare that you'll ever be required to work with XML in the AM world.
