    Unhappy Problems with Blair feed
I can't get Webmerge to create an index page with the Blair feed, no matter what settings I alter. I even cleaned it with excel and nada.
    Any ideas?

I had that problem and I was telling wm to use the detail template instead of the index template.

Another time I had some index tags in the detail template and they do not work in the index template.

For me - index tags will not work in detail template and detail tags will not work in index template.

Maybe you did something like the above ??

    Burger,
I may have this problem. I will go over my templates and retry building those pages. I'll repost my results here. I am also trying to rebuild my templates to get more than one product per page. I'd be happy with all the products created per category.
Either way, thanks for the help and I'll let you know how I make out.

    Hey, Burger.

I tried fixing what I thought was the problem. Still not working with the Blair feed. It keeps popping a (can't create index.htm page on my "c" drive in the directory where I have my destination setup). The funny thing is that all my other feeds work with that destination, but this one.
It's got me stumped. I'm starting to think it's the feed. I tried cleaning it, but no change.

Richard will usually offer assistance, if you send him a snippet of your datafeed file. You can send it to: ambassador@fourthworld.com

I can't make any promises for him though.

If you can't get it sorted out with Richard, I would be willing to help you out.

    Thanks, Fred.

I'll send it to him right away, though, I don't expect any results because the last thing I want to do is deter him from finishing WM update to 2.5. Besides, he's got a life too.
If you drop me email of yours, I'll send you a copy of the feed as well.

    Thanks.

    Hello, Christopher.
I know it's not Blair's responsibility to ensure that their feed is Webmerge compatible or operational. Do you have Webmerge to test the feed at all?

Sorry to say, I don't, Mark. I could see about getting our IT folks to take a look, if you can tell me specifically what the problem is.

    Chris.

WM won't let me create an index.htm page from my template that I am using. Comes up with a "can't create index.html page" error. I have used this template on all my other feeds with little or no problems.
    Thx.

I don't do the Blair thing, but might be able to help.

You can send an email to the address at my site, including your index and detail template and a snippet (dozen records and field names). And I'll take a look at it.

Thanks for all the help on this one, folks. Where did this end up? Is the issue with the feed format, or is there something I can do in WebMerge to take care of it?

I am having at least two different people or groups take a look at the problem, my personal bet is on the format in which I am receiving the Blair feed. I am able to unzip all of my other feeds that I get from Performics and load them into Excel for viewing, but not Blair.

Beats me what is going on yet. Anyway, I have faith in these guys. They'll eventually figure it out.

    Thanks.

If Excel can't load it either then it's probably the feed format. Let me guess: CSV? Second-worst product list format in the world (#1 being XML, but that's another story).

CSV has no formal specification, so there are many, many variants out there. The biggest differences have to do with rules for quoting and escaping.

If the format is CSV the good folks at Blair might consider a more self-consistent format like the ABW Standard, at least as an "also":
    http://www.web-procreate.com/datafeed_standard.htm

That format is designed to be simple to set up, so it shouldn't take an IT person more than a few minutes to make an exporter for that.

If the current format isn't CSV I'd be very interested to learn what it is. Please keep me posted with how this works out...

I've never had any problem using the blair feed - but I'm sure my templates are different. Easy to get rid of CSV format, just open with excel and then save as tab delimited or other format. All the feeds I get from performics are | delimited.

Interesting. Thanks for that. So you're not having any trouble loading it into Excel?

I wonder if Mark's copy was merely corrupted in transit....

Nope, never have had trouble with loading it into excel, just have to set the proper delimiter when opening it.

Heidi or Jack, have either of you ever got an "cannot create index.html" error while running thru webmerge? If not, would you both be so kind as to run me thru the exact step by step process of running this feed thru WM so that I can get this merchant up and running, please?

    Thanks.

The exact error that keeps popping up when I am currently processing Blair is "error processing record 1: can't open index file:" and then it specifies the location of the file that it means on the next line.

Just thought you should know what error I keep getting.

I cannot express my "Thanks" enough or in the right words to you. I don't understand how WM got messed up with this problem. All I did was go back over and re-instruct WM of the destination directory again and it worked! That's right, I got product pages created and working!

Thank you, my Dear Heidi. Pat yourself on the back, modestly for me!
    You Rock~!

Can anyone pass this along to Richard, and the Blair reps for me, please!

What a great way to start out the week!

Thanks for helping out tsmgroup2, Heidi. I've been keeping track of this thread, but know nothing about WebMerge, and our IT folks aren't very familiar with it, either.

I must say... I feel this is one of the biggest benefits of ABW. Friends helping friends is the foundation ABW was built on, I believe.

Heidi -- If you could PM me an email address, I'd like to send you a thank you gift for finding the solution to our problem.
