    Static.

A lot of people still have dial-up and other real slow internet connections and if the page takes too long to load - they just click the back button and leave before the page even finishes loading.

I actually learned something about making them a little off sized, like a pixel off so antivirus softwares won't block it.

You can usually put the size you want in your html and reduce a banner size, but if I try to make a banner bigger with a banner size in my html it always looks like crap.

You cannot enlarge banners very well.

And which ones would you prefer the best?

Do you ever think that text converts good for you?

Flashing banners always have annoyed me. They are like Christmas light displays left on through the month of July.

I have found a static banner of about 465 px wide (off size to confuse anti-virus) combined with a text link right below have worked well.

Basically - text is the only thing that does convert. I very seldom get a sale off of a banner.

In fact - I really don't use banners at all unless you are considering an image the same as a banner.

I use a small image along with text and a text link to call for an action in the link on the index pages and a large image and text and a text link to call for action on the product detail page.

You are correct on that. For the actual conversion you need the text link. Sometimes, however, the banner can take the place of a product image link. In other words the banners that I like are ones that showcase the product rather than those containing some gimmick or slogan. In some programs, other than a data feed, the banners were the only option for showing off the product.

A nice size for an image on a detail page is 150x150 or as you said 151x151.

If you are going to have a banner, make it active. Not strobing, doesn't have to be flash, but a static banner is as good as no banner. For the loading issues, you should always load banners etc in iframes to allow them to load at their own speed and not stop up the page load.

    I agree.

Keep in mind as well that many people according to Pew Internet research are still on dial-up modems (in spite of all the television advertisements pushing broadband/cable) See Slashdot's article Many Internet Users Happy With Dial-Up
    I use dial-up.

Does it help if there is a text link below a banner? Have their been any studies done which prove/disprove this?

I use a description also. I've found the more information that I give the customer on my site - the more likely they are to click on through and buy.

Now days server space is cheap - the more you give them - the more likely you'll get a sale.

Boy - That pizza was good.

Ever heard about a banner farm does not get you very many sales. It's true.

If all you have is a banner farm I can get 100 sales for every one sale that you get.

Sorry I don't want to sound annoying but what content do you prefer for a banner. I take it you like to see specific products with prices and a call to action. Does that mean I should make banners for specific phones let's say the best selling and most popular phones? I should not make banners that are just promoting simoncells.

And the text what do you like them to say. Because I think it's hard to get someone to click through on a text link or am I wrong.

    YES

    You're wrong.

They will click through on a text link if it has a good description along with the link a lot quicker than they will a banner.
