    Happy Time!
I just had to tell someone, I got a good deal from a merchant paying me $6 per sale. Sent it out to my subscribers and made $140.00 in the first 4 hours. I know for a lot of you guys thatís not big, but for me itís good. Should keep going up at least for the next day or two.

Is your campaign a combo of website + Newsletter?

That's great! I get zero response from my newsletter subs. I figure they're all dead. LOL

    Sounds like a good combo.

Perhaps someday I'll have a newsletter -- that will take a while.

I am not sure which would be better:
    • an interactive blog or forum
      or
    • a newsletter

I still have to work on my separate sites that will ultimately be related together in a sense -- then I'll decide above.

Thanks Rexanne, I've spent a lot of time developing a good relationship with my subscribers, and since the spam act was put in place, it has also cost me more cash just to make sure I meet the requirements and that my subscribers actually get the newsletter.

I would guess that the Spam Act states that there must be a specified list of voluntary subscribers over the age of thirteen? Something like that?

I haven't read the act yet, is there an online source we should read to familiarize ourselves with the new regulations?

    P.S. Congrats on your bounty

A forum takes a lot of work to keep it clean, just ask Hailo Iím sure he would agree. I recently took two of mine down because I was tired of people from other countries spamming it just to get links to their porn sites or whatever. I donít have a blog, but my newsletters work good for me.

Back in 1999 I had a forum but the "members" didn't want to interact with eachother they just wanted my constant input and entertainment

You are right about keeping a forum clean

I've got a domain that's not even up yet, so I need to work on that & improve upon what I already have.

I have 2 blogs & I've reached people & made a few "online friends" with comments enabled. I like blogs

I think if you spend money on your list, it'll work better. I spend nothing on it but my time and effort to write it and interact with my readers. I would have 3 or 4 times the sub rate I now do if I paid for a list server (I let Topica worry about SPAM and all the "issues.") So it's good yours is paying off. Well deserved.

Thanks Cheesehead, It's a big jungle, easy to get lost. I get lost all the time, but I'm sure one day I will find my way to the right trail. ABW is a good trail to be on, I much to learn.

Hey Trying, congrats on the success with your list.

Regarding mailings, CAN SPAM isn't the only regulation that mailers need to be conscious of. There are new laws being created, like the Michigan and Utah child protection registries which pose a large concern to anyone with a mailing list. For example. if your mail contains products that are adult in nature or could be seen as harmful to children, you can face fines and jail time if those messages reach kids in Michigan or Utah who are on the registry.

The DMA has a decent article on the registries which explains what they are and how to comply.

Thanks for the good info danay, I was unaware of the Mich & Utah laws. That is good to know, but I'm not sending out the kind of things that would fit in with those laws, so I should be in the clear.

    Great info though.

you're very welcome Trying. We stay away from those types of offers altogether, since our sister company is an email marketing agency.

After all of the work involved making sure your deliverability is strong and compliant, I can't imagine having to do further work with these regulations.
