Google looking for it's verify file
The last two days Google has started looking for it's verification file on a couple of my sites. These are associated with Sitemaps and you gain access to errors and stats that they have.

Now I haven't given them the verify file unless there was a problem, but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't just go ahead and give it on all my sites.

If you feed google a sitemap and have it submitted just click on "Verify" and they walk you through it. It's just a blank file with the name they give. It only takes a couple of seconds to verify if you are already registered and submitted.

Yeah, it's a pretty good way to verify that the person has control of the site.

I'm surprised that none of the networks have done something similar. It sure would cut down on the number of new affiliate applications claiming that their site is "Google" or "Microsoft".

It is also a good way to see where you rank. I have a site that is Number #3 for my keyoword with the word "forum". Now I need to learn how to make a forum "hint" and let the users create my quality content for me.
