Provided that the visitor who "set" (receives) your cookie does not clear their cookies or receive a new cookie from another affiliate ("overwritten"), that is the time that your ability to create commissions via the cookie extends to.

30 day cookie would mean that any time after the visitor clicks on your link you may receive commissions up to 30 days after, if a qualifying action (sale or other) takes place.

This time is also referred to as "return days"

What is a decent length for return days, as far as affiliates are concerned? Obviously the longer the better but what is a reasonable length?

most sales come on the first click and only a few come in return days in my experience, so it depends how well the first click converts. (Some programs may convert on return days better than others)

30 is fair, 60 is better 120 is nice and session based cookies or no return days is just plain lame

    Indianaff,

That was a simple question...you've only scratched the surface ;-)

when you have a question try the search, here and on other forums....the rabbit hole goes real deep. Before long you'll be answering the questions too!

    Glad to help

If your looking at a product merchant who values having a value-add 1099 affiliate sales force... they usually go for 30+ day cookies. Just remember the moment the merchant caves into featuring coupons/rebates and allowing in popup incentive BHO affiliates your return day cookies become bogus lies. All your referral sales will be exposed to hijacking at the point of sale by couponers and the resident CJ BHO's.
