Excellent Spyware / Hacker Article from Washington Post
Just wanted to share this excellent spyware / hacker article from the Washington Post:

    Invasion of the Computer Snatchers

    By Brian Krebs
    Sunday, February 19, 2006; W10

In the six hours between crashing into bed and rolling out of it, the 21-year-old hacker has broken into nearly 2,000 personal computers around the globe. He slept while software he wrote scoured the Internet for vulnerable computers and infected them with viruses that turned them into slaves.

the rest of the article (which is long but worth reading): http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...401342_pf.html

Unfortunately it is another article that uses the term "affiliates" in a negative light.

The money behind 180 solution's ability to grow and spread crap comes from people like this!

"That year, 180 says, it raked in more than $50 million delivering online ads for some of America's best-known corporations, including JP Morgan Chase, Cingular, T-Mobile, Monster.com and Expedia.com. (Among the hundreds of companies that have placed ads through 180solutions is Kaplan University Online, which is owned by The Washington Post Co.)"

Damn sham Haiko never pays attention to what's happening within the Adware/Spyware industry with that stupid ABW site www.parasiteware.com just sitting there doing no read good for this industry. Real CJ sellout on this one!

LOL... StompSoft's Spyware X-terminator 2005 sounds tough, but don't expect it to snarl "Hasta la vista, baby" at spyware threats on your system. On our tests it removed a couple of spyware items and detected a few more, but the rest were left free to romp all over the infested system. As for blocking installation, it came up with a perfect record-zero. It neither blocked nor detected any of our sample spyware installations. Spyware X-terminator offers a feature called real-time protection, but all that does is prevent the installation of tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and watch for known spyware processes in memory. Of course, once a spyware process is in memory, it's already busy making trouble on your system. During the course of our review, StompSoft added a degree of hijack protection. The program will now detect and reverse changes to the IE home page and search page and to the Windows Hosts file. It doesn't, however, watch for programs that configure themselves to launch at Windows start-up, and there's no option to configure these new antihijack features."

You'd think our leader would strike while the media iron is hot. Instaed he runs off Ben Edelman the only one bringing real media attention to what is killing off legit affiliate commissions.

Hope the FBI and Homeland Security squeezes this botnet cybercriminal, & the reporter, for every piece of info on his gang of distribution partners -infestation fee payers and affiliate networks monitizing this all mighty Adwhore operation.

The Post left metadata in the photo that ran with this story, ID'ing the town where the guy lives as Roland, Oklahoma - population 3,000

He's definitely going to get caught now!

If caught, his punishment should include working for the FTC for a few years teaching them how it's done so they can catch others. Hey, he said he was thinking of getting a job... catch me of you can, part 2... but instead of leonardo decaprio, role is fit for billy bob thornton...
