"Scottish company Media Logistics chose the wrong recipient when it sent unsolicited email advertising its businesses to Nigel Roberts - an expert in the Internet field with a law degree to boot. On receiving the spam, Mr Roberts decided to test drive a recently introduced EU anti-spam law (
Mr Roberts wrote to Media Logistics requesting an apology and claiming damages under Regulation 30 of the law. He also requested, under section 7 of the Data Protection Act, to be told the details the company had on file for him, and in particular the source of their information.
Although Media Logistics duly apologised to Mr Roberts, the company declined to pay compensation and would not disclose the name of the company from which it had sourced the information (citing 'legal reasons').
With no other alternative, Roberts took the company to court in October and won. An out-of-court settlement was made last month, with Media Logistics agreeing to pay Mr Roberts a total of £300 (£270 as damages and £30 to cover his costs).
Roberts is now working to produce a series of templates based on his case, to help other Internet users take action against companies that spam them. Roberts intends to make the templates available free of charge on his website
Looks like his site isn't actually ready yet.

Good for him! It is great to hear that someone finally faught the spammers, I just don't think this is going to do much. Unless a large number of people do the same thing spam is still going to annoy the population of the World.Ryan MacWha
