    Google AdSense on Merchants sites???
Why would CJ allow merchants to post Google AdSense (or any other sponsored or cpm program) on their site when the affiliate who sends FREE trraffic to the site...only makes $$ IF a sale is made and then....only makes $$ IF the tracking is good (which harumph ...lately its not perfect) - gets SCREWED when the visitor clicks a google adwords link and is "poof" gone from that merchants site??

I have an idea ... why dont i build a page full of sponsored links - join cj - get hundreds of unsuspecting affiliates to join my program - make tons of money off the sponsored ads and screw both the affiliate and cj?

oh did i give away a secret? (sic)

BTW, you're referring to AdSense here, not AdWords. But yeah, it's a big leak... Smart affiliates will avoid those kinds of merchants...

I changed the title and post from AdWords to AdSense.

At least one CJ merchant (Buy.com) sets a cookie for CJ traffic and doesn't display any leaks (AdSense, Yub.com, and other ads). That's the only responsible way for a merchant to do it if they're going to include ads on their site.

CJ really should require this from all merchnats.

    Buy.com is the only one.

Anybody know of others? Got a list around or is there one here on ABW?

I won't use merchants that allow such a blatent leak in their program and CJ should do their part to make sure cookies are set.
Advertisers should do their part and NOT use programs that have leaks.
Your traffic is hard earned and to give the sale/click/lead to a 3rd party just doesn't make any sense to me.

If you search on Google for keywords Car.com coupon code or MiniTots coupon code, on the first search result page you’ll find a merchant that sponsors not only AdSense but also hundreds of other merchants.

Didn't see a merchant on those 2 searches, saw an affiliate site.

A merchant using Adsense on their site is them telling you that they suck and you should shop at their competitors.

If cut the folder (one folder) and go to the root of its domain or click the logo, sure will see the merchant.

    You got it.
Seems there is a lack of appreciation to their affiliates considering that to promote their program via PPC is very expensive. Adwords quotes $10 per click for some keywords to activate.

I don't see the merchant either. I see a well known affiliate site.
And after looking over the list of forums here (man I scrolled a long time...ABW has really grown) I didn't see a match.

Got it. I didn't like the AM (It was a few years ago)
Glad they are not part of my merchant's pool.
What a leak, it's awful to use their affiliate traffic to compete with them.
And they have affiliate programs on every networks they can find. (Free traffic is cheap)

    Me too

I have looked all over the top level for leaks that lead to that page or any of those pages of their savingsportal mall and haven't found any, but...

It's not like one link there (and that is to many for me anyhow)

There is a whole shopping mall!

Just look at the navigation on the left.

But I see 1-800-flowers there, google, shaper image and over 100's more

When you sign up for a dental plan do they put links in their email newsletter and sign-ups?
    yep.
just click on the newsletter link it says
    DentalPlans.com > Mailing List

That would mean we are sending them a database of emails to market to.

    Damn shame.

My guess is that this is a loyalty exchange. DentalPlans gives special discounts to the other programs and in exchange they give similar discounts. Its not considered an affiliate model and hence why they put adsense on it so they could try to make more money on it.

I am thinking about doing something similar but on a secure page so it doesn't leak for affiliates. I know some of these merchants and will ask.

You missed the point, Chuck. The point is that affiliates of DentalPlans.com send them traffic. By having AdSense and affiliate links to other sites, some percent of that affiliate traffic "leaks" through those ads. DentalPlans.com makes money off it, but the affiliates get nothing.

There are plenty of other CJ merchants doing the same thing
Another albeit small potatoes one I found is myweddingfavors.com, not only do they have adsense, but then they link to their blog where they promote other merchants.
Doesnt CJ have t/c for the merchants???
