I can think of a hell of a lot of worse words than d@mn and I'm pretty d@mn sure that 99.87% of everyone here can too.

How many people here are actually really offended by that little old word?

I dont think ppl get too offended by that word, if it appears from time to time.
But if it's used like 2 times each and every sentence and also in your signature, it is offending. And TGO, you should know that--you posted before that you are a Christian.

Okies I'll Cut that from my signature.
Now that leads me to another question.
Yes i am a christian. And i follow christ. Attend church reguarly , thank god for everything he has done for me.

What am i trying to prove here ...am i very good christian ....ummh nah....it looks like i am boasting of how good a christian i am.

But what has the word damn got to do with christianity ?
When slangs such as the f word or the bas word and the 1000's of slangs on relations go neglected.

Poor amit and poor my fav word D @ m n haha lol
It still is a mystery.

I guess this is turning out to be a boring subject. i'll just try my best to compromise with that d @ mn word

Regards
TGO

Have you looked up what "damn" actually means?

At the very least, using a word in a way that's not what it really means reveals careless thinking - not an image that most business people would want to project. And for folks who take seriously the religious beliefs behind some meanings of the word, to hear/read it being misused is very, very ugly indeed.

Here's part of what Webster's dictionary has to say about "damn":

Damn, To consign or send to punishment in a future state; to send to hell; to condemn, censure, reprobate severely; to condemn or destroy ... <snip>

In other words, if you're thinking of using the word "damn" ask yourself if it would be appropriate to say "go to hell" in that context"? It would be extremely rare for that *ever* to be appropriate if you're paying any attention to what the words actually mean. (If it is truly appropriate, then word choice is likely the least of your problems in that situation!)

If you want to come across as an intelligent business person, you'll take care to use words for what they actually mean.

Another example would be using the f-word when you were actually talking about sex, but not using it just to ventilate about business frustrations or something (Hi, Haiko!). It is inappropriate to take a concept that *should* be beautiful and turn it into something angry and ugly.

My 2¢ worth.

"But what has the word damn got to do with christianity~TGO"

I think some Christians use the reasoning that only God has the authority to damn (condemn to Hell). Therefore, they consider it a blashphemy when people say the word, since it implies that PEOPLE have the ability to condemn in that way, or to make the judgement of who should go to the Inferno. Those who believe that way also do not like the epithet "Go to H@ll" for the same reason.

I personally do not hold those views of the words, but apparantly a lot do. If I recall right, it was former president Harry Truman who got a lot of Baptists very angry at him by his use of the curse "go to H@ll". A documentary about his life mentioned it and that has stuck in my mind ever since. I actually remember that part of the story (about the cursing and the response to it) better than the name of the Pres., so forgive me if I got the name wrong and it wasn't Truman. But I'm 100% certain about what the documentary said about the cursing!

Christian beliefs vary quite a bit by denomination, btw--what's blasphemy to one denomination is mere words to another.

Although I will say that looking at ANY swear word in a signature is offensive. That's because it appears just TOOOOO much.

Alrighty alrighty dudes...
I knew a few meanings of the word D@mn and also that it relates "Go to h@ll"
But i never knew people would get offended by it.
So, My apologies to all....Cos i don't and never meant that to anyone while using that word. Its just a habit. Anyways i'll try to cut it out. But A habitutated word like that needs some time to go off my vocabulary system.
So if appears a few times, just neglect it please....so that i'll just finish it off.

Regards
Amit

Thanks again to elisabeth and leader.
