Linshare has claimed to want to move back to the top of networks by improving affiliate communications. I e-mailed them 2 times about poor conversions ratios and definite padding of merchants stats with false inflated click through ratios. the results were the same cut and paste canned response.

Subject: November miserable results

Just as your months of efforts to revise Linkshare as a trusted network
for loyal affiliates looks like it might be worth the efforts...November
stats disprove your claims. We all know about the LS merchants sending
out Holiday specials and sales boosts for getting more exposure on
affiliate sites. This consumes hours of my time and if your network
could convert or record sales then it's worth the effort. My November
stats show almost 200,000 impressions with 2000 click throughs ..not
very good results on new creatives for 60+ merchants. Then comes the
real bad news ...total earning during this record month for retail sales
jumps was a measly $0.40 cents. Look like your network is padding the
clickthroughs and impressions for Chase manhatten Bank ( 742 impressions
420 clicks 57%) and American Express ( 480 impressions ..320 clicks at
65% CTR) to appease these advertisers. Looks like a miserable Holiday
shopping season for LS affiliates since your merchant group refuses to
record and report sales. Don't even bother asking for specific
transaction details since NONE have been recorded and all LS seems to do
is suck off visitors from my site as a form of free traffic. Once I
record the results over the last quarter of 2001 in a EPC formate I'll
publish the results for all affiliates to see on the various affiliate
BBS services. Many of your high profile merchants like Franklin Mint,
Martha Stewart and Office Depot have never recorded a sale in over 15
months. You hide the real performers from us loyal affiliates by not
publishing conversion stats.

2 exactly the same responses after replying and clarifying the nature of my requests to verify their stats and recording of sales and try and get trouble ticket resolved.

Dear LinkShare Affiliate,

Thank you for your email!

If you believe that you are missing a sale, please be informed that it may be due to the following reasons: LinkShare has not received merchant confirmation of the sale or the sale may have been non-commissionable. Please read over the following information:

1. Reports may not reflect your immediate sales information because we need to have merchant confirmation before we can update your report. Be assured that LinkShare Synergy software tracks the sales information immediately. Reports to the LinkShare NetworkT are updated every morning (EST) upon merchant confirmation.

2. Run a report in your affiliate account by logging in to your LinkShare account at http://www.linkshare.com using your specific username and password. Click on the "Run Reports" tab and a report will automatically run. Choose the appropriate network from the drop-down box located at the top of the page. Scroll to the bottom of the page to the purple box labeled 'Reporting Controls,' choose the appropriate information from the drop-down boxes, and press the 'Go' button. Should you not see a sale, please run a Non-Commissionable Sale report. This will display a report showing all non-commissionable sales related to your link.

Some sales may not be commissionable because the items purchased are not covered by a particular merchant's program level and Terms of Agreement. Please run an Individual Item Report to see this information.

Note: we can not track missing sales that are less then 5 days old or more then 60 days of the transaction date.

If you have reviewed the above and you still think that you have not been commissioned properly for a sale, please reply to this email with the email confirmation from the sale in addition to your LinkShare account username.

Each merchant sends us transactions at different times. The merchant is usually required to send us the information at least once a week. For web hosting merchants some of them may wait 3 months before reporting a sale to ensure that the person that ordered the service
retains it for 3 months. This prevents fraudulent sales from taking place for services like web hosting. Merchants who have sign up deals also wait to send us information to ensure that
the sign up was legitimate. You can contact your web hosting merchant to inquire as to when they normally update the reports and as to when a sale is qualified as a sale.

Log in to your LinkShare account at http://www.linkshare.com using your specific username and password. Click on the "Account" tab on the control panel located at the top of the page. Select the appropriate network and merchant from the drop-down boxes. The page will refresh. Click on the 'program level' link that is selected. The terms of agreement page will appear. Please review this page to find out commissionable sale information.

Sincerely,

Is this the normal response you guys get from LS since all their merchants never rely to individual affiliate e-mails. I still have 92 of them active.

I am in the same situation. Well, ok not as bad - I have more than 40 cents.

Out of maybe tw0o dozen LS merchants, I have only three that are showing higher sales this month compared to October. Sales are surging elsewhere, but LS and befree are real dogs this holiday season.

Now I have to spend all weekend replacing all these losers before the season is over.

Things were looking better at LS, but it all unraveled this month.

Mike,

Chase Manhattan changed the payment format.

Here is a reply from Bob (the LS contact for Chase Manhattan). He was very helpful and replied very quickly to answer my emails.

quote:
Bob Kumagai wrote (Nov-6):
The links that you have on your site appear to be functioning correctly. Chase Manhattan changed the format of how activity is reported in the last two weeks. Prior to October 19, an application that resulted in an approved account would populate in the sales report for the day of the original user session (or click). After October 19, that approved account would populate in the sales report for the day of the approval. For example, if an end-user clicked through your link on November 1 and was approved for a new account on November 8, the account would populate in a sales report for Nov 8, but the click would populate on Nov 1. That change may account for the relatively low conversion rate from the click that you are seeing for the month of October.

The transactions do take longer than 1 week (approx 4 in my experience). I have only received one sale since they adopted this format. (10 previously)

The Chase Manhatten problem wasn't there fault as to the stats ..only conversion. LS shows me now with 914 impressions and 524 click throughs for this month. I'd be surprised if I had that much traffic to the finance pages in my Mall and I don't e-mail affiliate coded offers ( zero spamm complaints in 3 years). The padding/inflating of the clicks is what concerns me, since this type account ( banking Credit cards -mortgages) get about 1 % clickthrough ratio. I asked LS to look into tracking since these are non modified non incent links. They do this to inflate traffic to poor producing or newbee merchants to justify the network charges at billing time. I see it every month at certain times of the month on many merchants. Obvious errors like CTR's jumping over 40% on selected merchants...no sales. Earnings at LS for the month have now jumped to 17.84 on 345,000 impressions. Labor to revise all chosen merchant creatives ..70 hours.

Linkshare really should just make life easier for affiliates and they also be tops. One simple request, 1 aggregated check! really simply but dunno why it's hard for LS to implement. IMHO, LS can really become the #2 affiliate network if they provide this. I've seen lot's of improvements in LS' interface which makes them way ahead of BeFree.

havent had lots of e mail go out but at least linkshare has replied to my emails.
Be free by far has responded slowest. Last one took 2 attempts. I gave up on it until 2 weeks later when they fuinally answered. LS and CJ and most others have usually reponded. Canned reponses are typical. I was really impressed with sharesale however. Last night about 11 pm they replied back in about 2 minutes.

Mike, Yup Linkshare still has a ways to go. They have improved IMO though. Hopefully it will continue. I know after the holidays a lot of my links are gonna be removed and programs dropped from all of the company's I deal with. I really can't wait until Jan 1 to make some major changes on my site. No more free rides.

Leader, Wooooo Wooooo!!! Blowing my CJ whistle as I head to the bank to cash 3 Linkshare Checks that were right on time. Hmmm! Just hit me, no CJ check yet this month. Hopefully tomorrow.

THAT'S strange...my Direct Deposit was right on time! I see you're in NY--are they holding up the mail there again, investigating for anthrax (I'm serious)?

You oughtta get Direct Deposit, then you wouldn't have to worry about getting a check in any case!

I had a problem with some LS links today so I emailed the merchant, within 5 mins they got back to me with a reply from LS!

Bit different to Performics, I still haven't heard from them and it's been I think, nearly 2 weeks!
Rapidly losing confidence in Performics, sent the merchants a heap of clicks with nothing to show for it!
Ummmm

More people are buyingg online this year after the Terrorist attacks. Fear of local Mall or just hibernation from events. I'm not priviledged to LS's reporting tag interface for merchants like at CJ and Befree ( no clients at LS) but it sure seems fishy or screwed by cookie problems ..IE 6.0 or merchant on-off switches. Traffic to LS up 48% sales activity down by 92% over last years same period figures. Of course last year I alos had 90 more LS DotCom bomb merchants thta never paid up.
