    Question Your Myspace??
Anyone here a member of the MySpace cult??

if so, post the link to your profile so we can all go laugh at you!

I had one, but canceled it because it was upsetting my girlfriend all the random girls asking to be my friend. What can I say, ladies love a man who knows how to maximize his ROI. LOL!

I don't have time to maintain one of my own.

What little extra time I have is devoted to policing my daughters MySpace page! *LOL* And checking all of her friends MySpace pages too since their own parents don't keep an eye on that stuff!

If I'm not mistaken, it used to be 18+ and if you were under 18, your account was deleted. And once it started growing and growing in popularity, they decreased the age limit to 14 I think. But who's to say the kids won't lie about their age when they sign up.

I think the concept behind MySpace is good and their intentions weren't for it to become so out of hand, but I definitely feel it needs to be monitored and regulated more.

The way it is set up now is if you are under the age of 16 then your profile/page is automatically set to private.

Most of the kids from around here that are 14+ just say they are 16 so the page is public.

You can bet that bogus missing "text messaging" 13 year old girl,in Jersey City, was a Myspace whoremone driven idiot. Her Myspace groupees are buzzing.

Millions of people use myspace, so some bad things are going to happen and the press will demonize it. Millions of people go to church and bad things happen there. Don't let the press fool you to what something is.

I had a friend who had to change their home phone number because their daughter was getting so many calls as he put her number in her profile.

    This is true.

But I have a 18 year old cousin on there, and she's shown me her MySpace inbox and she gets at LEAST one or two messages a day from guys ranging from 18-35 saying stuff like, "Hey, you have a nice a$$, let's get together" or even one guy sent her a message saying "hey there, my **** is hard and throbbing for you, would you like to come play with it?"

Now these guys don't even know her and I imagine this happens to girls all over myspace, and the girls who are really 14-16 who say they are 18 or so, can you imagine what they must think when they get those messages?

It's a shame people are like that and abuse myspace like that, I really like the concept. I know there are millions of good people on there, but like you said, the few bad ones will be the ones glorified. I just hope a lot of parents take a more active approach to regulating their kids use on myspace. Some parental controls or something, or a monitoring software.

Anyways, my purpose of this thread, was that myspace can be a cool way to see people you've never met here on ABW. If all you know of someone here is a Handle and their email address, it's cool to put a face to the name.

I wish I still had my myspace, so I could post it, but like I said, my girlfriend did not appreciate the girls that were trying to be my friends on there. So to keep the girl happy, I canceled it. A wise man once told me "Happy wife, happy life." I have found his theory to be correct.

She put her # in her profile? Wow. I wouldn't even consider putting my email address or AIM name on there, let alone a phone number. lol. Silly girl.

When my daughter first set hers up she put her actual zip code, actual school and full name on there.

Since I keep close track on what she does online, I knew about it within an hour and you can bet all hell broke loose around here. She did it all innocently and once I pointed out the fact that with that little bit of info, coupled with her picture, any perv could wait around the school and find her easily she freaked out. She immediately changed her info to a combination of B.S. that would make it hard to really find her.

I have her username and password and monitor her MySpace private messages, email, etc constantly.

I also do that with all her other online accounts. Internet privacy for anyone under the age of 20 in our house is NOT an option and our kids know that. Our rule is if you have to hide what you are doing then you shouldn't be doing it and if you can't abide by that rule then you can't use the internet. Period.

Some people think that is being too controlling, but in my opinion when it comes to kids and the internet you can not be too safe.
