    Adsense and Certain Products
Hey I had a quick question. I have been part of Sierra Trading Post and other Outdoor related sites and have been using adsense. I was curious though. I was just approved for Cabelas but in their product feed they have links to firearms and ammunition. In Google TOS it says you can't put adsense on pages that promote these things. Is this correct or is it only if you personally sell these items and not just link to them. I kind of wanted to check in on this before I implemented the adsense into the Cabelas pages...

    Thanks

If you link to the products on your pages, then you're promoting them. Don't put any references to firearms or ammunition on your site. If you do, don't put any Adsense on at all.

Ok so you are saying this is per site and not per page?

In other words I can't just leave them off those particular pages. I have to either get rid of adsense or get rid of links to firearms across my entire site?

I find this strange. I did a google search for deer hunting and I visited several hunting and fishing oriented websites with google ads on it who promote hunting, firearms, and ammo...

I find it really hard to believe google is that anti-hunting....

    From Adsense TOS:

    Site may not include:

    Excessive profanity
Violence, racial intolerance, or advocate against any individual, group, or organization
    Hacking/cracking content
    Illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia
    Pornography, adult, or mature content
    Gambling or casino-related content
    Excessive advertising
Any other content that promotes illegal activity or infringes on the legal rights of others
Pop-ups, pop-unders or exit windows that interfere with site navigation, obscure Google ads, change user preferences, or are for downloads. Other types of pop-ups, pop-unders, or exit windows may be allowed, provided that they do not exceed a combined total of 5 per user session
Excessive, repetitive, or irrelevant keywords in the content or code of web pages
Deceptive or manipulative content or construction to improve your site's search engine ranking, e.g., your site's PageRank
Incentives (monetary or point-based) to users or third-party beneficiaries for online activity including, but not limited to, clicking on ads or links, performing searches, surfing websites, reading emails, or completing surveys
Sales or promotion of certain weapons, such as firearms, ammunition, balisongs, butterfly knives, and brass knuckles
Sales or promotion of beer or hard alcohol
Sales or promotion of tobacco or tobacco-related products
Sales or promotion of ion drugs
Sales or promotion of products that are replicas or imitations of designer goods
Looks like it's site not pages.

Then there are hundreds, if not thousands of websites who are in direct violation of this one:

Sales or promotion of certain weapons, such as firearms, ammunition, balisongs, butterfly knives, and brass knuckles
I wonder if Google is aware of this??

I am not going to name the sites but I went to several websites that promote hunting and have reviews on firearms and ammunition for hunting deer, moose, turkey, etc... and that site has adsense embedded in their pages.

This is one out of dozens I visit weekly who have adsense.

Maybe it is illegal firearms they are talking about. I just can't believe google would really be that picky. They allow people to register on ADWORDS who are Hunting Guides and promote Hunting Gear...

If you look at this closely it says certain weapons. So this means not all. It says "Such as firearms" and not "specifically firearms"

I find Cabelas and LL Bean are promoting themselves legitimately through ADWORDS, I can't believe they wouldn't approve of me placing ADSENSE on pages with these company's products on them. They don't sell illegal firearms which I think is what they are getting at.

I heard of a similar situation regarding a medical site with some pages talking about p-rescription drugs. You'll notice the TOS stating "Sales or promotion of p-rescription drugs" is a No-no. The site owner checked with the Adsense people and received premission as the site was neither promoting nor selling the drugs, just providing information.

The intimation was also that this was policed on a page basis rather than site basis. However, so be sure, I would suggest asking the Adsense people for a definitive answer.

Send an email to adsense-support (at) google (dot) com asking. They're pretty good at getting back during regular business days.
