My sister just put up a web site and on her partner page she discovered links that she did not put there! I told her to phone her web host and find out how someone could put information on her site. The only thing I can think of is somehow they discovered her password? I also told her to email these 3 sites and point blank ask them how they did it and to do a Who is on each of them to see if they are one in the same person. Is there any other way they can do this? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

    Check this out. http://scumware.com/

You didn't describe the strange links in much detail, but I suspect they might be coming from a "scumware" program that she downloaded without realizing what it would do. If this is the case, unauthorized links are being added by software hiding in her computer. Anyone who has the same or similar software would see extra links, too. The strange links are not actually on her site, they just look that way to anyone who has such software.

It's a form of theft by unscrupulous advertisers, and it's a serious problem. We're ALL vulnerable to being raped this way. Add your voice wherever you can to protest this form of promotion!

Hi cazzie, you didn't mention whether you had paid or free hosting, I assume it's paid otherwise they could be putting links on your site.
Otherwise, as Buckworks says, it could be Ezula, Surfplus or one of those donkey programs.
What color are the links, yellow or green?
If it is one of these insidious programs you'll need to get into the registry to completely remove it.
Whirly Wiry has a page on how to do it http://www.whirlywiryweb.com/removesurfplus.htm

I know she is very new at this and I drilled her to the fact maybe she forgot she made the links herself. She said she has never seen these sites before
    Hr site is http://www.onlinefinancialresources.com/Associates.html
It doesn't appear to be scumware to me, but I will investigate it further.
    Thanks

talking of scumware, this forum uses bcentral banner exchange (i just saw a seeyouagainshortcut banner) and often times i see the "your desktop is boring" add, that is a gator download (gator is bundled with webshots screensaver software) and for those who dont know already, gator will hijack your banners if the user has it installed, i nolonger use bcentral for this reason

I need more than help! Anybody have a stiff drink handy? This girl sent me all over the place trying to figure this out and guess what! She finally remembers putting the reciprocal links in there! Say's she feels like a fool! Oh Well, thanks for the help anyway.
