When they ask for your phone number, give them the phone number which you dial to access your ISP.
Repeated international calls to a modem line would be funny. When they email you with the problem, just tell them that 'someone must be using the fax, keep on trying'

@ALL, WARNING !!!

I get those Nigerian emails everyday on my company's website. It is a HUGE scam. Check this site out and things would be clearer to you.
http://www.scambusters.org/NigerianFee.html

A Greek friend of mine had to pay $200,000 only to save his @ss from the Nigerians when he went on with their story. They told him to come to Nigeria to pick up the money, but when he got there, guess what.... He was welcomed by armed criminals who emprisoned him. Then they called his wife asking her to wire them $200,000 if she wanted to see her husband alive again. The poor woman had to pay that money so they would release him. You might not beleive in this story, but I guarantee you that it is 100% true, cause it happened to my friend(business partner).

The moral of the story is... Delete those emails that promise milions at once!!!!!!!

Yeah the Nigerian ones are criminal, not just spam.

Strictly speaking they should be reported to your local law enforcement authorities. In any case, you should report it at Spamcop which at least will alert their ISP to take action.

I guess by saying this, you are also saying that Gordon is a dumb-ass for beleiving this and all the others that got jelaous that they didn't get such an email.

What I didn't tell you about the story with my friend is that they wired him $10K before he went to Nigeria saying that they are doing that just so he would beleive them, and they paid for his trip to Nigeria. Wouldn't you beleive that? I am sure you would have.

OK, I was under the impression that pretty much everything coming out of Nigeria was a scam and was common knowledge.

Cor, they certainly do go to some lengths though. $10K up front & the plane tickets certainly sounds a little convincing.

but still, there are suckers born everyday. Just look at MLM..
when will people learn that you can't get something for nothing

At least ten years ago I received that Nigerian "offer" by snail mail and today get them by email. They need new scams, that one's gettin' pretty old.

Maybe these Nigerian bandits and Kidnappers sent one of these enticements to Bin Laden and that's why we haven't heard from him in weeks. They now are auctioning off his head at ebay with a reserve price of 25M.

Alexbet,
Thanks for posting that link. I receive those letters all of the time and had wondered what it was all about...obviously it was a scam, but I never knew the details. Now, if I can just find that list of people I'm supposed to send 5 dollars to and replace my name at the bottom.....

>OK, I was under the impression that pretty >much everything coming out of Nigeria was a >scam and was common knowledge.

Exactly. I used to get those scam letters in my business mail 15 years ago!

Although it DID take the Nigerian fraudster quite a while to catch on to emailing them instead.

And the actual methods they descibe of how they came about the money are so obviously ILLEGAL ("1 million left over from a Govt tender", etc), that anyone that responds is practically getting what they deserve.

Potential thieves being ripped off by smart Africans.
