Cool I've been hanging out with reptiles toooo much
    True story.

I hadn't been feeling too hot for a few days so I went to the doctor today.

The nurse comes into the examining room, introduces herself and sticks a digital thermometer in my mouth. The thing beeps after a few seconds, she removes it and starts muttering. "These darn new thermometers are so unreliable," she says, "I'll go get another. I'll be right back." She returns with a new thermometer, sticks it in my mouth and removes it when it beeps. "Wow," she exclaims, "looks like your body temperature really is 95."

"WHAT?!?" I shout at her. "How's that possible?"

"Well, were you drinking a cold beverage before you came in?"

"Nope. I was drinking hot coffee."

"Were you outdoors for a while before you came in?"

    "Nope."

"Well, maybe you really are sick then."

Shoot, I've been saying I didn't feel good for three days now. But just maybe I've been hanging out with cold-blooded animals too much lately. You never know.

And on that note I'm going to go huddle under the covers and try to warm up.

    Hypothermia

Definition : Hypothermia, a potentially fatal condition, occurs when body temperature falls below 95F (35C)

Throw in some thermal underwear while you are at it.

Zimmy, I saw the PA actually, not the doctor. He says I don't have hypothermia but he's not sure what's causing the low body temp. . He didn't seen too worried about it though. The only time my body temp is 98.6 degrees is when I have a fever. It's usually in the 97.5 to 98.0 range.

My main complaint was that I had shortness of breath. The PA gave me some stronger asthma medication. I now have a cute new inhaler that's shaped like a flying saucer. Ain't that special?

Before you guys worry too much, you should know that everything about me is either low or slow, from my BP to my cholesterol to my heart rate. My mom was the same way. I guess she was part reptile, too.

I'm the same way Rhea. Even during both my pregnancies my BP was barely making it to the normal range. The doc was amazed.

My husband wonders how I ever could have survived growing up in Chicago because I'm always cold w/3 layers on... I like to eat flies too

Hope all is well with you Rhea

Wow ... have you considered getting a second opinion by a vetnarian doctor?

All jokes aside, I hope you get better soon!

Yeah, if your body temp gets too low you can't maintain normal metabolic processes. I guess if it goes below 95 and stays there too long you could be in big trouble. Hubby says I feel cool to the touch. It's weird because I don't feel chilled or anything, but I'm being extra cautious and wearing warm clothes and socks (which I never wear around the house). Actually my feet feel hot and it's really annoying! lol!

Just to put this in perspective, my body temp is normally below "normal." My normal BP is about 85/55, cholesterol is 120, respiration is slow too. I wonder if it's because I'm a small person so my systems don't need to work as hard as a normal size person's do to keep everything operational.

Anyway, I feel better just because I had a medico check me out and he didn't spot anything too unusual. I'm going to stay close to home for a few days and take it easy just in case I'm fighting off some nasty bug. I have heard that some viruses can cause low body temp.

Thanks all for your concern. I'm sure I'm fine, although whether or not I'm normal has always been open to debate.
