Yet another way merchants steal our commissions
Someone clicked thu my site - purchased something - no sale shows up on CJ logs.

    Sound familiar?

I contact merchant and he responds:

Seems this customer has ordered from us once before back in December. We send out weekly email promos so that customers can take advantage of sales, etc.

When a customer comes to our site whether it is from one of our mailers, paid search or CJ links, they are tagged with a 60 day cookie so the appropriate person or promotion gets the credit.

I show that this customer clicked through our weekly promo within the last 60 days so when they came though your link, they were credited as an internal sale to our mailer.
If the customer comes thru MY site and makes a sale - I should get the commission!!!

What's this "we tag them as internal customers" whether or not they come from an affiliate's site????

    AAAAARGH!

Boy, you are scaring me!! All this bad stuff...if they came through your site again and the cookie had expired, it should start a brand new cookie, right? It's not pick and choose what sales go where.

    What merchant is this?

That's total BS. If they come through your link you should get the credit.
I can almost understand if they came in through the merchant's newsletter, but if they clicked your link between the time when they clicked the merchant's newsletter and when they bought, you should be paid as long as they were within the cookie duration.

Will you say who this is so others can avoid them?

if you generated the click-thru that led to the sale, you should collect the commission ... seems pretty straight-forward. UNLESS this merchant has developed the marketing holy grail -- what's refered to as "the Gestational" -- a n action-object that sits in the user's cerebral cortex ... and lies dormant for days, weeks, even MONTHS before the required 'activator' is presented to the user compelling them to action = purchase. If they came up with THAT then, yes, absolutely they deserve to withhold the commission since they've figured out a way to finally circumvent that pesky freewill thing.

I posted this... well... to vent! It'so ludicrous, I had to!

But most importantly, I posted it as a warning

If they're doing this to me, they're doing it to other affiliates

And assuming CJ knows of this kind of stuff, then if this merchant is doing it... others are.

It's a simple agreement we all signed on to:

We place a link. If someone clicks thru our link and buys something, we're supposed to get paid.

You need to either out them or send the AM a link to this thread. Last cookie gets the sale, even the parasites understand this LOL

Is it ComputerGeeks? They have a huge Out of Stock Banner on individual product links that entices millions to join the 3 times a week e-mail blasts. Amazing how merchants treat real value add affiliates, and their targeted traffic, like cookie cannon fodder. OUT THE BASTARD!

So how far does them tagging the customer as a promotional lead go? Will your cookie stay like theirs did if the situation was reversed?

Last click gets the sale. Screw that guy and his weekly mailers. He is a thief.
You need to have CJ involved. He is stealing from them, too.

Even if the customer purchased on a click through of their internal newsletter - you should still get the sale if a click on your site is within the cookie limit.

If the click that got the sale was yours then there is no dispute - the only situation I can see this being acceptable would be if after the customer clicked on your site - they clicked on a different affiliates site and made the sale - therefore the other affiliate would get the sale, but on an internal newsletter there is no comparison.

Do they have a contract agreement you can look into and see if any of their cookie/click policies are validated?

You might be able to get CJ interested if it is a large sum, but other than that I think you'll have a hard time getting in touch with anyone let alone getting any support. Sorry.

Out them and get CJ involved. It doesn't matter what the amount is. Not everyone watches their traffic as closely. Imagine how much they have stolen with their "scams"

I wasn't going to name them 'till I removed all my links - but they're everywhere on my sites

And I can't ask anyone for a recommendation for a replacement unless I tell you who it is

It's JJ Kent/My Italian Charms (and at Xmas time they do Letters from Santa)

So... who else has these Italian charms???

Billy, I have a new merchant going live mid April. They are on SAS and have what you are looking to replace. I still need to do some work with them though, currently they have more leaks than a pasta strainer ...

I can PM you the site if you are interested....

Let's see... one merchant doesn't pay on a legitimate sale

And one pays - but has leaks

    Hmmm....

I'll join Andy... and mail you some corks to help plug the holes

It does seem that the MAINSTREAM traditional programs like CJ really like to bugger affiliates in the backside. If you refer a surfer every sale should be yours.

I remember a thread here a few years ago where they stiffed some affiliates on Letters from Santa, so this is not new activity for this bunch.

Actually after a quick review FractionPrice has the best fit

    http://www.fractionprice.com/category.cfm?Category=372

The other two aren't 100% the usual Italian Charms.
