I was just checking some links on one of my sites and the merchants site was down.

Now a few weeks ago, I was checking catalogcity and they were down, as they were early December or late Nov when I last checked.
And just before Christmas I was checking a merchants site, and they were down, now I wonder what is the uptime for some of these merchants.
I remember one merchant I had sent a heap of visitors that day and no sales,so I checked to see why people weren't buying, sure enough their site was down!

Mmmmmm, wonder how many sales we are losing this way, perhaps we should do checks on their uptime...would this be legal?

I didn't see your earlier post...you bring up a great point...that would account for a lot of the tracking problems that have been heavily discussed. I don't see why we couldn't monitor their sites...I do it with the ad-networks I deal with (well some of them that have spent some downtime). I don't see why something couldn't be done with the merchants. I don't know of any way to track that many urls...most of the free services only allow 1 url....

Hi Tom, no we couldn't do it for all merchants, but then again if we all signed for a free service and took one merchant each we'd just about cover all of them.

That would work...I've used internetseer for this...I think they check once an hour...I like the weekly e-mail of the total uptime, etc. Hmmmmm Who wants to organize this endeavor...

Can we legally do it with someone else's domain?
If so we'll have to organize ourselves so we don't double up on merchants!

Hay, sounds like an idea for a new site with built in stickyness. Make it a merchant monitor. Visitors suggest sites to watch and report on and they come back often to check on the merchants they affiliate with -

Anyone with programming skills want to write a script to visit sites and then have the script update a web page with results? You could make it show last 30 days or just the last 7 days and graph the results. I like it.

    Here's one to start with!
Panache over at Performics (one of my merchants) has been down for 6 hours that I know!
